Hi, ok the way round this .... My local council were very helpful I can't drive and the cost of buses taxis etc are so expensive ... I phoned the bus pass dept and explained that I can't drive and had trouble walking far but on a good day I could get to the local hail and ride stop but the costs were limiting me .... They said I could apply for a free national bus pass although I am not of pensionable age.... And sent out a form. I was eligible under option 4 unable to drive due meds making me unable to drive . I take 4 meds that all say do not drive if affected... I am I feel slightly drunk all day... Not an unpleasant feeling but my reactions are terrible. I got a letter from my dr saying who I was where I lived I was his patient and I was unable to drive due to med effects and this would continue for the foreseeable future. Filled in form with passport photo and handed it into my local library who sent it off for me. You don't have to be on dla or mobility allowance for this option. Trying to get a disabled bus pass is very difficult but the lady I spoke to worked out how I would be able to claim the national bus pass so try phoning your local council bus pass applications .... Hopefully they will be as helpful as I found..

Good luck xx

Suggest, obtain application form from your Council Disabled Services Department, for mobility help. (Forms are not universal & depend upon your Council). For some there is a section on the form for people who do not claim DLA but none the less need transport assistance. Your GP can apply on your behalf. GP sends the form to be assessed & processed (you do not get to see what GP recommends) but you may get approval for a disabled persons bus pass... It is vital that not all mobility assistance be a consequence of being in receipt of DLA as not everyone is capable of applying for DLA (the process is not compatible to many chronicaly sick and severly disabled people, many of whom are not receiving approperate basic support or care in the first place, let alone having somone to battle their case to obtain DLA, or DP, ESA, etc at appeals). We need other avenues of mobility & care help, not just PIP/DLA.

Just to add to my answer above... My pass just arrived disabled pass valid thoughout England and lasts 5 years. So will have to reapply then as I still won't be a senior citizen ... Please phone your local council bus pass applications and good luck xx

thankyou sandra99b long story, haven't as yet so stressful and been to ill, but after winning esa appeal i am considering it. none of us should have to go through all this, i would sooner have my health and a better quality of life than any amount of benefit. tc will let you know thanx once again soma x
