the rheumy said i need to strengthen my core muscles by graded exercise....exercise fills me with horror as my muscles burn even after walking for 30 minutes around a shopping mall and i have to sit down...

can anyone recommend anything that will not do this to me?...i fancied yoga but im already flexible and really do not need to improve felxibility..

the rheumy also said the cross trainer for 10 minutes rising to 15 minute and then up by 5 minutes each time when im feeling ok then 5 minutes rising by 2 minutes when im feeling bad :-o

Also can i link my IBS and reflux to HMS and how can i improve this?

ps..cant take the amiltryptiline as im completly monged out and have to work!

would rather do this without drugs therapy....am i being foolish?

thanks ladies

Hi, I did Yoga a few years ago and really liked it as it helps to strengthen muscles too. I cant use a cross trainer cant keep me feet in it!!!!!! No your not being foolish by wanting to do it without drugs but just watch that you dont over to it.

Take Care

Hi Loopyloo

I'm with your rheumy around strengthening core muscles but a little surprised at the particular exercise recommended as there are many gentler ways to begin exercising.

Just this morning I've posted a response to a users question on Pilates which you might find useful. The link below will take you to the question and you can scroll down to my response.

For all beginners, it's important to first check with your GP to see that there are no reasons why you shouldn't exercise (doesn't sound likely if you can do 30 minutes walking but that's the general advice for all beginners). Pilates helped me but the most important point that helped me was being supervised and taught by a competent teacher in a class that wasn't too big at first.

With regard to medication or not, that really is a personal choice. I went for 5 years with no medication until I got to a point where I had no choice or I wasn't going to have any quality of life. For many of us, with medication, there is never a 'final perfect' medication rather an ongoing juggling. I have found that mine work for a while then I have to review and change (up or down).

Hope this is helpful.

hi

im in the same position and since my latest relapse my energy has been so low so i have put on weight and cant exercise to lose it. i see a sports therapist for regular massages as thats how i control the muscle tension and he has given me a list of stretches to do each night and recently he has given me some strengthening ones with weights.

so i would say if you can see someone for a consultation like a sports therapist who is willing to research fibro or someone already familiar with it and they can give you some exercises. that way you can build up your strength and build up to actual exercise.

hope this helps and good luck x

hi I can definately recommend pilates and also tai chi it is very relaxing and gentle. Take care to pace yourself and build up slowly on any new exercise as i do tend to forget to pace and suffer afterwards. Hope you enjoy whatever you choose and it helps you.x
