The effects of Temazepam, any help appreciated please.

I suffer, as do we all, from little or no Level 4 sleep. As I am still waiting for counselling for Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) following a severe road traffic accident in November '09 and as a result now getting no sleep due to the night terrors that are a part of PTSD, I finally more or less demanded sleeping tablets from my GP as I have to have some functionality as 1st grandchild arriving early at 32 weeks due to pre-eclampsia and I need to be there for my daughter and her partner at this difficult time.

I have never had actual sleeping tablets before. I have had Amytryptaline which does help with sleep but makes me a day time zombie and have had Clonazepam to help me get off to sleep (which it does) but I constantly wake at the slightest noise and then it takes ages to get back to sleep or more often I cant get back to sleep at all.

On these Temazepam I do fall asleep, and stay asleep but still wake up unrefreshed as usual, could stay in bed all day if it wasnt for my little dog (as usual) but I wake up with the bed soaked through as if I was having night sweats like I had during the menopause, am having panic attacks (which I have not had since I was diagnosed) and I feel so much lower than usual to the point where I am having suicidal thoughts. Needless to say I have decided to stop taking them after only 5 nights.

Has anyone else any experience with using Temazepam? Similar side effects? Different side effects?

It goes without saying that I am going back to my GP but would be grateful to hear from anyone who has had any medications that do help them sleep, without the side effects that Temazepam seem to be having on me, so I can suggest some possible alternatives to my GP.

Thank you all and thank you for this site which helps me feel less isolated knowing you are all here

Gentle Hugs

Comfort

Sorry I can't help you with the Tamazipan but I'm sure having your 1st grandchild will lift your spirits. After a day with a newborn you'll not need sleep aids you'll be knackered. x

Hi, i was prescribed tamazipan, all they did for me was make the world spin for ten mins then nothing!

Ny hubby suffers with PTSD and our GP prescribed him Zopiclon and they work great for him he falls asleep with in 10 mins of taking them and gets a deep full sleep for about 9 hrsand although the first 15 mins he could easily fall back to sleep if he stayed in bed he is fine and feels refreshed

perhaps you could ask your dr about them or even change your dr if you feel you arn't getting any where

hugs poppy xx

Hi, l was on Temazepam for 25 years, taking 60mg.l broke my neck and had metal and wires put in to stabalize it,then such bad spondilitus had to have another operation ,they cut the front of my neck this time and packed it with bone off my hip, anyway,l have never slept on my back or side since,25 years on on my tummy, first they knocked me out smashing,l was taking a strong dose and gradually, the sleep got less and less going nights and nights without a minute, but l still took them....habit forming....l get about 2 hours with or without them,..so l stopped them completely about 1 year ago, they had no miserable side effects with me,but l tend to be never tired, they cant understand it,so l think it depends on the individual,we are all so different and have to work it out for ourselves, but my night sweats have stopped,so maybe they were doing that to me,l have needed a double dose of whatever they put into you to knock you out for an operation,so it does take alot to put me to sleep,on occasions it does catch up with me and l get abit tired, but laying down, every bone in my body hurts especially my,neck, collar bones and shoulders, lve done 2 chronic pain courses, but at the end of the day,you are on your own.So l would say Temazepam depends on the individual,l tend not to think about side effects or you can imagine you have them all.
