has anyone got any experience using Dragon Speak?

I've been offered a job working 16 hours a week but there is typing involved which gives me so much pain in my arms I wouldn't be able to cope. I would like to take it and suggest this programme but wondered if its any good.

Hello,

I have Dragon on my computer, I'm at University just now and helps me a lot with typing coursework and essays. I would recommend it, the only thing is that you need to train it to learn your voice, this involves repeating commands, correcting mistakes and reading passages of text (sometimes 25 minutes long)! Dragon then saves the passage of text you have read to your profile, and you build up a profile of words.

I got funding from the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) and they gave me money to hire someone to train me in how to use Dragon. I have the contact email address and telephone number if you want me to send you it in a private message? Might be something that the work could help pay for?

Dragon is really good once it is trained as you can control your computer completely by voice, no need to use the keyboard or mouse! Like you can say 'open word' and a new word document opens and other commands like adjust volume, open email etc.

Dear C,

Thank you for answering my question. I hope you r having a good week. SOrry its taken me an age to reply. I've been pretty poorly again recently and have hardly been on the computer.

Unfortunately I have had to turn down the job I was offered as chronic fatigue got the better of me and also it turns out that Dragon Speak won't work too well in an open plan office.

My father bought me a version of Dragon Speak but I don't have enough memory capacity to run it on my lap top properly! Next month when hopefully finances are better my end, I am going to see if I can get the memory upgraded.

Thanks for the advice.

dragon is good but you do have to keep an eye on it and its great when you have trained it and this takes time ... employers should help you to get your work done with the disability work act .. support is what your asking for however the job centre may be able to advice you .. good luck gentle dyslexic hugs

Thank u Lexie, apologies for the length of time its taken for me to reply! I've been quite poorly lately. I had to turn down the job in the end owing to chronic fatigue and the fact that Dragon Speak doesn't work too well in an open plan office. All a bit depressing but there you go. Hope you are having a good week. Bluehippo xx
