Fatigue

Hi I have been suffering from depression, mood disorder and chronic fatigue. I did blood tests lately but all is fine so Dr confirmed that its fibro.

I sleep 8 to 9 hours but I wake up tired like I want to sleep again. This happens on a daily basis and is affecting my routine because I don't have the strength to get out of bed so I end up getting late to work.

Does anyone suffer from this type of chronic fatigue please and how do you deal with it thank you

Hi Annalisea, i suffer alot with this too. My problem is actually mustering up enough energy to get my feet out of bed & sat up. Once i have done this i can actually function a bit better. I have tried lots of things over the years & seem to have settled on something that works 90% of the time,it might sound daft but this is what i do: i put on my electric blanket about 1-2hrs before i need to get up, to warm my muscles & then i lay with my eyes open & do small stretching exercises that i can do whilst laying down, from feet to head eg toes, ankles, legs, back, shoulders, wrists, jaw/face & neck. While i do all this i think about all things i need to do that day. All that done, i pull off the duvet & swing my legs out of bed as fast as possible. I have no idea why this seems to work for me but maybe i am tricking my mind or body into thinking it is more active than it actually is, who knows. Ps the other 10% of when it doesnt work is the period of time when the clocks go back/forward (UK), no idea why but its alot worse in these periods. All in all, its trial & error, sometimes thinking outside of the normal & remember what works for one of us may not work for someone else but i have found over the years that i have picked out little things from alot of other peoples methods that make a unique method for myself. Keep your chin up, dont give up, it may take a while but i hope you find something that works for you xxx

Hello, I think having fibro combined with depression is totally wearing from my own experience in the past , if your doctor could help you with medication to get depression under control I think it would be a start, it might be you already take something , I changed my meds and made so much difference I started to pick myself gradually and never looked back, very hard when your working so can understand how you must be feeling right now x

Thanks for your reply. Yes I have been taking meds for depression for a long time now.. always trying to figure out whats best for me. At the moment I am coping with depression but the fatigue is killing me which makes me feel sad. I feel like failing when I cannot even do the easiest thing in the morning that is to wake up when the alarm goes on and start the day after 8 to 9 hours sleep. Wishing you the best xx

Have you had your Vitamin B12 & Folate levels checked ? I’ve been reading about this lately, with the connection to fatigue etc.

I have had Fibro most of my 74 years. There were 3 separate and distinct stages. This last stage began about 15 years ago. And it sure has been a struggle. The pain is horrible, but only people who suffer with chronic fatigue will truly understand what I'm about to write. Each morning when I wake up I lay in bed for at least an hour staring at the ceiling, saying this to myself, "come on Don, you can do this. Get up and try to shuffle on to the bathroom." Sound ridiculous? Not to folks dealing with fatigue. REAL fatigue. I haven't had even one day in these past years feeling refreshed in the morning. Don't even know what that word means anymore. Still, sites like this one provide a valuable service in that its a reminder there really is a Fibro family out there made up of bunches of caring people that are about each other without a phony balony among them. Hang in there. (Phony balony is a term used in the old days on this side of the pond.) 😂

I haven't yet been diagnosed but fully understand what you are going through. My fatigue started following cancer surgery. Initially I called it a mysterious 1-day illness as I would suddenly become desperately tired, freezing cold in a 24° room, sneezing and barely able to walk 3 metres to my kitchen.A few hours or the next day the "flu" like symptoms would disappear and I would just be left forever "losing consciousness" and experiencing multiple aches and pains.

Like you, I find it extremely difficult to get out of bed. This late start to my day leaves me wracked in guilt. I have micro sleeps on public transport and even when out walking which results in stumbling and "bringing me too".

I thought CFS but my Doctor suggested FM. i have to wait a fortnight for multiple blood tests to be taken. I went yesterday for a chest x-ray and am awaiting a letter from the Hospital to go for an MRI on my bonce.

I am in receipt of PIP for arthritis and the problems I still encounter following my surgery. I had reconstruction on my mouth and tongue so mostly feed through a PEG. Ironically during the hour of my PIP assessment she never noticed any signs of fatigue. My fatigue along with it's associated problems are by far my worst problem, lol.

I reckon the worst thing of all though is that no-one else appears to realise how much of an effect it actually has on you. Nearly forgot, (that's another story), do you or anyone else get bad tinnitus leading up to severe fatigue? I know how bad mine will be by the volume of it.

Dear chookey hope you are feeling better now after going through the surgery God bless you xx good luck also with the tests you are doing. Unfortunately it affects us daily and to keep up with the routine its very hard. I thank God I hsvd to wake up for work otherwise I will end up staying in bed till late morning. Sometimes I feel lazy but I cannot do otherwise. Best wishes xx

Do you have any other symptoms? Three other stuff may involved: iron, folate, B12 but for B12 deficiency requires to have two other tests: methyl malonic acid and homosytein if it happens to be high then your active B12 is low and cause nerve damage and should be treated by B12 injection based BNF guideline. Most doctors they don't have enough information regarding this issue and you need more investigation regarding that.

Hi Hamayeshguy the rheumatologist ordered alot of tests for me and they are all fine. For example today I slept 9 hours overnight, had a bad headache in the afternoon and had to lay down. I slept for 4 hours and now I want to go to sleep again.. its like I can never sleep enough. Thanks for your help all the best

Do you have other symptoms? If it just fatigue you need to check feritin and total B12 and active B12 for active B12 you need to check MMA and homosytein. Other synthesis like muscle weakness, muscle pain, blurry vision or double eyesight and tinnitus, hand numbness or any other symptoms like vertigo, ataxia dizziness and so on.

Hi yes I have muscle pain, IBS, depression, anxiety, lack of concentration brain fog.. I will check if Dr did the tests you are mentioning. Thank you much appreciated 🙏
