Gabapentine + Clonazepam Star

Hi all.

So the pain infusions didn't work so consultant referred me to see a neurologist. I had the app this morning. He did some basis neurological tests which he said were fine. As Fibro is not his area of expertise he did his best. He has prescribed me some new tablets to try. Clonazepam to help with sleep and Gabapentine. Im sure I've tried the Gabapentine way back when I was first diagnosed and I stopped it for some reason but can't remember why. Anyway I was wondering if anyone here has or is taking any of these meds and if so how are you getting on with them, any side effects??? Love and gentle hugs to all 😘😘😘

I take Gabapentin. It's very strong and you have to build up or down a dose to suit with your gp. Side effects for me are that they knock me out if I don't try really hard to stay active when I take them. That being said I struggle to sleep more than 3 hours at night wake up repeat etc. I don't sleep deeply and this affects my coping mechanisms and body health. So if you can try a sleep med and it works for you then go for it. I always ask are those meds addictive as I don't like the idea of that in top of everything else. Gabapentin you must consult your gp if you want to stop. Good luck.

Thanx for your advice. They do say they are highly addictive and that is putting me off. I get an hour or 2 sleep aswell, pretty much like you, sleep a bit then up in pain. Im constantly exhausted and just at the end of my tether now!!! Anyway thanx Debbie xxx

Some people do become dependent on them after long term use, but many people use them with no real side effects and plenty of benefits! I take a fairly low dose of Gabapentin and it definitely takes the edge off.

I’d give yourself a shot at seeing whether you can feel better by trying them. They could be groundbreaking for you, but you’ll never know if you don’t give them a go!

I didn't find Gabapentin addictive and it didn't affect my sleep. It didn't help my pain levels much but it did make me gain weight, withdrawal is unpleasant and should be done slowly!

I have also gained weight. It does help me a lot but I feel hopeful that there are better meds out there that don't knock me out.

Im a terrible insomniac so i would have probably liked a bit of the knocking out effect! I tried Pregablin too, which is so supposed to be a newer version but I found it was even worse for weight gain. Unfortunately they only worked for me when I was on both of them at the same time which wasn't a combination I was allowed to stay on. But I feel better managing without meds now which is better in the long run really.

Thanx for taking the time to reply back guys, I have however decided that this combo is not for me and I will keep on fighting this awful disease. Love and gentle hugs to you all xxx
