I feel better.

Good morning Fibromyalgia sufferers. I felt I had to share my experience with you with this so called "Mickey Mouse" illness. It has now been 22 years since I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I have had years of pain and Fatigue, struggled to get out of bed in the morning. Help from my husband. I also suffered from lack of sleep usually getting about 4-5 hrs of sleep. I have tried all sorts of medication, reflexology, physiotherapy, kinesiology, acupuncture, cbd oil and so on. I have had problems with constipation. Usually put down to Fibromyalgia as a lot of things are. I spoke to the GP back at the beginning of December and much to my dissapointment was diagnosed with IBS . The GP did say that some of her colleagues did not believe in Fibromyalgia. Anyway she advised me to go on line and look into a fodmap diet which I did. I was on the fodmap diet for 3 weeks and I have to say that the fatigue had improved and the abdominal pain had stopped. You cannot do this diet on a long term basis and it advises you to see a dietician. Knowing that NHS would take a long time. I invested in seeing a private one, after all I have spent so much on other treatments over the past 22 years. Having said that the reason for the dietician was about my IBS. However she informed me that what you eat has a big effect on how Fibromyalgia can affect you. I was very sceptical I am afraid. She put me on an elimination diet which I have to say is cold turkey, I am now at the stage of reintroducing foods. I cannot believe that the fatigue has greatly improved. I can do more, I sleep better and my husband has not had to assist me getting out of bed, I find it easier getting out of bed and I can put my own socks on. I honestly feel that life is easier. I would never have believed how diet could change my symptoms. I am sorry for the long story but I thought it was worth sharing.

Hi bless you so glad it’s helping you it’s a lot of years suffering.

I too suffered badly with IBD my gastroenterologist said that it’s made worse by fibromyalgia well chronic inflammation I have lots of food intolerances they sadly have increased over the years it will take me months to figure it out the new triggers.

I had an intolerance test done 12 years ago when I get enough money will definitely do another one as you may know lots of if fibromyalgia suffers have digestion problems wishing you luck with you fodmap diet.

This is one thing I've not tried. I've tried different diets but have been a coward when it comes to elimination dies. You have inspired me. When we can get out from under this pandemic I'll give it a try.

Thank you, that is very useful information, about the diet. I'm gluten intolerant, and have started having a few problems with potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, etc.

That’s great news!! I also suffer from Fibro and have been particularly struggling in the past 6 months. I was at a stage where I was thinking I would have to stop working and have been feeling desperate after trying lots of different meds and lifestyle changes. I started a keto diet about 2 weeks ago and I can’t believe the improvement in joint pain and fatigue. I totally think sugar has a massive impact on Fibro. I was using sugar hits to try and fight the fatigue but it ain’t worth it and doesn’t work in the long run. The Sugar battle continues for me but fingers crossed.

I know what you mean. I would have chocolate or cake to take my mind of the pain etc. I cannot believe how much better I feel. If only I had known this years ago it would have saved alot of suffering. Hope all goes well for you.

Hi Cairngorm. Really interesting what you said. I realised quite a few years ago that me and sugar were not a good combination. It was very difficult to go ‘cold turkey’ - but worth it because I felt so much better.

I also stopped alcohol and refined carbohydrates.

Basically I eat like a caveman - with added mugs of decaff tea!

Best wishes. Xxx

This is interesting. I quit alcohol with relative ease as I realised it was a trigger. But quitting sugar is really hard. When you get the fatigue what do you do now instead of massive sugar binge. I drink loads of water but still get intense cravings.

I like snacking on dried fruits (the soft kind). Other treats are free form foods.

Hi, can you send me the list of everything you eliminated please

The elimination diet started with fish and rice. Also filtered water. Then foods were gradually reintroduced.

I totally believe in using food as medication. Such so I would love to do a course but money won't allow at the moment. I also have the IBS related to fibro and do struggle with certain foods but over the years have worked out what to avoid. It isi hard when you have a flare up and feel rubbish to motivate yourself again to take control but reading this has done that for me. Thanks ❤
