Does anyone have an idea?PIP plus over 65

Covid-19 has messed up all our lives that we can agree. Now here is another. My PIP was due to run out this year. I rang them for a form. They said don't worry your payments will have been extended past that date by 6 months. By then I will be past state retirement age. So does anyone have an idea if my claim will be allowed after that interesting milestone, please? PIP is more than just£ it allows me independence in my car.

Hi there, if you are on PIP before retirement it is carried on after .

Hi skit, if what I read has not changed recently it says. As Hidden said.

If you're awarded PIP before you're of State Pension age, you'll continue to receive it after too.

My understanding is that it should continue after pension age - but you might want to check with our benefits helpline on 0300 999 0055 (Mon, Wed, Fri 10.00-12.00) or email benefits.advice@fmauk.org

PIP carries on after state pension age. gov.uk/pip/eligibility

Also any review of PIP after state pension age will be an ongoing award.

PIP will continue after retirement age as long as you meet the criteria for claiming. If you are not receiving the mobility part of PIP before retirement age it cannot be awarded once you have retired and receiving the state pension. If for some reason the mobility part is not awarded but you where receiving it before then you can appeal and it can be reinstated. But a new claim for mobility will not be allowed.

My PIP was due to run out end of this year, I am almost 67 and was waiting on review forms I did know award were extended because of COVID 19. This month I received a letter saying they had looked at my claim again and were able to continue my PIP payments for an ongoing period. There was a date of July 2030. Good luck x

I am exactly the same, mine was due to end December, they extended till next June, I became a pensioner this month, if you claimed before reaching SP age it continues, I am hoping they will give me the ten year one , when this ends , I have a car though so it’s making it a bit awkward to have it extended by 6 months x

I hope you get this too, which is what I said to my friend who was awarded this in January. I was so relieved when I got the letter. Fingers crossed for you too x

I have looked into coming of Pension age, so PIP changes to Attendance allowance but unfortunately it says you cannot use it for a Motability car, I don’t understand why we would not be able to do this as surely we don’t just stop going out at pension age, I found this info on the Motability website, do you know any different to this please ? If you are claiming before pension age then you can continue to get PIP, if you haven’t claimed before then you have to claim attendance allowance which doesn’t include the mobility part. Pip doesn’t change to AA, it’s two different claims x

Don't expect to keep the car though now as you basically not be able to walk at all!

As long as the claimant meets the criteria for claiming PIP then it will be awarded, if it’s a review and you are receiving state pension you will have your PIP renewed subject to you meeting the criteria. Evan if you had the high rate then was lowered you can appeal and a tribunal can have the higher rate returned although this takes months. Those moving from DLA to PIP have to remember the the criteria for claiming for each are different.

You should continue receiving PIP if you are receiving before pension age.

They still have to review though, I’m just hoping for the ten year soft review now.

Hi Skit, This is correct that if already in pip at pension age you continue but it becomes attendance allowance, unfortunately I believe you cannot use it for a motability car, My private car has just died so at 59 im about to order my first Motability car but alongside this for the next 5 years I’ll have to save for another private car. I have to just say if you are already receiving PIP at pension age and you still have the criteria you will carry on receiving it. It does not revert to attendance allowance. The attendance allowance is if you are not receiving PIP at pension age you can apply for that. If you are already receiving High rate mobility and you have a review at or after pension you will continue with that. At no time does PIP revert to attendance Allowance after pension age.
