Weight loss with fibromyalgia?

Has anyone been able to loose weight and get in shape with fibromyalgia? Without being exhausted and be able to maintain the muscle strength.

I've used a vibration plate for years, definitely think it helps me with muscle strength.

Weight loss? Well I'm not very good at that one 🙄😂😂

Start off really slow by just standing on it. Do 3 minutes on the lowest setting every other day to give your muscles time to rest and slowly build up at your own pace.

Incorporate any movement you feel comfortable doing whilst using it such as simple squats, side leans etc. Always keeping your mind on your core, tummy muscles pulled in and clench your buttocks so that your working these muscles at all times.

Also find it good for my neck/arms/shoulders, kneel on a pillow both hands on machine on lowest setting (always lowest when head near the plate) moving head up and down slowly strengthens neck muscles and eases pain for me too.

Search online you'll find lots of information, hope this helps.

Yes I have, i lost 3 stone. Its very difficult but i did it slow and steady. I have gained and i think that's gonna happen. Just keep going. As long as the food is healthy and you try some movement. You can do it. I find it was only my mind set stopping me

I agree with mindset. I gained at the start of lockdown, making excuses to not eat healthy but I've had a real think and started afresh with new determination.

I managed to build up to doing a lot of exercise before lockdown. I was doing 3 HIT classes a week, 2 combat classes and 6 hours of kung fu a week. At first I was having exhausting all over pain with severe DOMS which as long as I did some everyday got milder but has never gone away. It's always particularly bad in he morning. I am in pain all the time, however, but I did get really quite fit. I did find my hypermobility caused problems as well though. I also can only do classes I find it too hard to motivate myself on my own and if the music is bad it makes me much worse! I have chronic migraines as well so some days I have to literally drag myself to the gym.

I had to go to the gym everyday though regardless of how much pain I was in. People always say "listen to your body" I make a concerted effort to ignore my body as much as possible. It gives us so many erroneous pain signals you wouldn't be able to do anything which mentally I cannot cope with.

Now that I'm not able to go to the gym I'm on diet bc I'll put on weight if I eat them same without so much exercise. I've never been good at dieting! I eat the same everyday as if its too complicated I find it impossible to maintain, plus I have to cook for my husband and two little ones. My pain levels are gradually getting worse in lockdown as I can't exercise with 2 under 5's and my husband working fulltime. I'm finding this very hard knowing I'm going to have to start again, I can't wait til Covid is over!

Lose weight yes but not really get fit. I walk which help and I've been doing slimming world. I know it will come off slowly and I've accepted that so therefore I don't get too disappointed if I maintain. It's taken my a year and a half and I've lost 2 1/2 stone with about a stone to go. Good luck and keep listening to your body.

I cannot exercise at all so I joined Slimming World and lost 5stone in 18 months, I have put 2 back on but thats my mind set, Iv been very low since losing it, for some stupid reason I thought that the weight loss would actually change my life, still bored, still in pain, still lonely.

I have been doing tai chi for 12 months and find it makes me feel good just to be able to do some form of exercise. I would recommend you give it a try. There is lots on youTube. I just do the deep breathing exercises and level 1.

I’m doing my best, have lost 1st 9lbs now. But it’s very hard work and requires me to exercise every day and eat a very low calorie diet. I have to say that I have less pain and more energy since upping the exercise and losing weight (although my legs were agony for the first two weeks, but I got past that).

I’m a master at putting on weight though, if not losing it 😂

I worked hard at the gym, through the pain and finally after about four months of agony I got to a place where I’d lost weight, toned my body and gained strength and stability. I felt so good, I had energy, no pain... and then the weather started to get cooler again and I couldn’t keep up with the exercises any more, even though I’d done them in the last week. The pain just took over. That month was one of the best of my life, but I would have to go through 11 months of pure agony and tears for that one month, so I’ve stopped. I’ve done that cycle three times over the years and for me, the prolonged flares and fatigue, combined with the embarrassment of no longer being able to keep up isn’t worth it. I was on depo provera to stop my period and even out my hormones and that stopped me losing weight. I’ve since come off that and can lose weight on a strict low calorie diet (optifast) so I do that for a month and then maintain for the rest of the year, then I go again for a month. I’m actually due to start it again when the shakes arrived as I’ve gained weight during lockdown.

My goodness you have done really well to loose that much ! Are you on pregabalin? I’m on 300mg twice a day and I’m sure that has made me put on around three stone over the last few years , I really need to try more but when I feel in so much pain I really have no motivation at all , carbs are my downfall as I crave them all the time 😩x
