I'm not even sure that this is what i have got. But i would like to learn more about it and how it all started for you?

I'm 41 and I have for the past 5 plus years suffered with general aches and pains. But the past month or so i have started to get a pain in my chest, armpit, arm, shoulder and back. It goes from a dull ache to a sharp pain or just a feeling of heaviness. The doctos seems to think its muscular, and i have been on naproxen for the past 8/9 days to help with the pain. Although it does seem to be easing off. It has in the past month came and goes.

Any thoughts?

hi and a warm welcome to our community. Here you will find information, support, friendship and some laughter too. You can also find some more general information on fibromyalgia on our main website fmauk.org

its difficult to say whether your pain may be fibromyalgia or not - fibromyalgia pain tends to affect all 4 quadrants of the body; but some people may find that their main pain is focused on one area.

a health professional would need to eliminate all other potential causes of the pain prior to making a diagnosis/

Hi Indigo78 I've had fibro for about 5 ish years but 2 years ago. I got flu which made the fibro worse and since then I now have daily flares and no time at all without pain.

I also have a lot of pain in my chest which docs have put down to fibro. It can be an ache or stabbing.

But chest pain is a worry .

I agree with ilex, you should take naproxen with a stomach lining medication

Thank you for replying. I have been prescribed omeprazole also to take along with the naproxen. I'm trying to cut down how many i take. I was on 2 a day with paracetomal as a top up for the past 10 days but i don't like taking painkilllers for longer than i can help it obviously pain permitting. So i'm trying to cut down to 1 a day.

I’m afraid it’s a bit of a slog before you get a firm diagnosis. Drs have to rule out everything else ( sensible, of course) but that takes time. Blood tests should rule out arthritis ( and there’s more than one type but it’s not something I know a lot about) If you experience chest pain your GP should carry out an ECG and order an X-ray at the very least. Because I had terrible shortness of breath I was also sent to a respiratory clinic. Incredibly thorough and I found out there was nothing wrong with my heart, lungs or chest. Chest pain with no known cause is often costochondritis—- it’s a horrible pain and I find it’s one of the most distressing fibro pains. I treat it with hot water bottles, one in my back, one in my chest. If it eases the pain within 10 minutes ( as it usually does) I reckon it can’t be anything serious.

Make sure your dr checks everything , even if just go out your mind at rest.
