Night time anxiety

I know times are difficult at the moment and normally I would go to the doctors with any symptoms which are causing me to worry but as I’m high risk due to severe asthma I dare not even contemplate a doctors visit. Having phoned last week because I was starting to get a chest infection and being put into major panic after being referred to the COVID team I’m very reluctant to rinse them, also I think they’re probably busy enough at the moment.

Anyway I have started having a strange sensation when I am going to sleep it’s really weird and mainly in my legs and feet but it seems to effect the whole of my body to a degree. It’s a kind of numb/ tingle which travels up from my feet, I googled it(not the best idea usually) and the first thing mentioned is Fibromyalgia so I’m not unduly worried about it now in the light of day but it really makes me panic at night. It gives me a feeling of doom? Goodness knows why but I have a feeling that I’m not going to wake up. I know this is really me overdramatising things but the feeling just won’t go away. It’s been happening most nights for a few weeks now. I’m pretty active in the daytime working in the garden and cooking so it’s not through sitting around.

Has anyone else had similar problems? Sorry to have rattled on a bit

I am very sorry this virus lockdown is causing you more anxiety. My sensations when in bed trying to sleep are very varied. My muscles twitch and although my eyes are shut I can see lights flashing in the distance. I put some of the issues down to what time I take meds and if I have been watching TV too late. Relaxation techniques of deep breathing and or taking your thoughts to a pleasant place you have been say on holiday might help?

I use breathing techniques which help a little, I’m sure it’s just another Fibro symptom, if I could get to the GP I’m sure that’s what they would say, most things get blamed on it lol. Thanks for your reply it’s much appreciated

Hi Skit. It sounds like restless legs to me. I've had it all my life and it is ver frustrating. After years of suffering with it I was given Ropinrole which really helps(although this is a last resort)

I know you say you don't want to bother your gp, but I think you should try to get a phone consultation and speak to your gp , if for no other reason to maybe put your mind at rest and ease your anxiety.

Are there any local organisations who can provide some support for your mental health ... Again, if you do not know of any, explaining to your gp hope bad it is they can maybe signpost you to someone.

There are also national organisations such as the Samaritans, MIND etc who you can speak to for support.

This current situation is a difficult time for everyone, but especially so for people who suffer anxiety issues xxx

The numbness and tingling could be related to Peripheral neuropathy, nerve damage. I have it in my ankles and feet. I had developed type 2 diabetes and had it for more than 4 years before the doctors spotted it. I'm on tons of medications for my Fibromyalgia but added a new medication to help with the shooting pains, burning, tingling, etc.

I went to my doctor yesterday and there was only one other patient there. The place was really empty and chairs all set 6 feet apart, a door greeter who takes your temperature and asks questions about travel, headaches, coughing, exposure. It was really ridiculous but I understand why they do it.
