Not sure what to do!

Hi guys, I'm new to this and not currently diagnosed with anything, I have a neurology appointment in April. I have suffered with cold sweats for about 7 years now, full on clothes soaked, body feeling like a furnace on the inside but freezing on the outer layer, hair soaked, bedding soaked, my bloodwork always comes back normal, but i also suffer with intense itching, swelling and burning pain in my hands and feet, i have days where i cannot move due to feeling like my bones have been replaced with concrete and I can't seem to stay asleep ever, a couple of hours tops at a time. My doctor is the most unsympathetic person I have ever met and doesn't seem to believe a word u say to her. I've been fighting for so long to find out what is wrong with me, this really can't be normal, and I refuse to believe it is part of getting older as I'm only 38, I should still be able to run with my little ones but most days I can't even wear shoes. I really am at the end of my tether, and don't know where to turn. Any advice no matter how small would be massively appreciated.

Hi and welcome 🙏

If your doctor is like that , can you see someone else in the practice? Or change surgery?

As you seem to be suffering can’t you get a medical appointment to explain your problem? Sounds like you need to be on some medication. Good luck 😉 and welcome to the best place for advice and support. Keep posting how you are doing. Big hugs 🤗 Lynn xx

Thanks Lynn. I have been contemplating changing surgery as she is the only doctor at our surgery and since she replaced our last doctor the surgery has gone majorly downhill, I just didn't know if now that I have managed to get her to refer me, if I now go and change doctors will it mess it all up, is neurology the best place for me to be seen or should I be requesting a referral to someone else also? I just don't want to live like this anymore. It actually makes me contemplate life a lot, thank God for my children. x

Hi I would say then stay with doctor until after your April appointment. She might change her attitude after you get a diagnosis.

I also went to rheumatology but they ended up referring me back to my doctor after a few months.

I know exactly how you feel as I, and I am sure many others here, have gone through/ going through these feelings BUT we have to keep going for the sake of others ( children 👶 or in my case my 85 year old mother) and you may have relief if you get the right medication. Also with this illness you do get good days also and it is these that keep you going and the friends you make here.

Chin up and try to see your doctor again and explain how you feel. Maybe you could get your appointment earlier or ring hospital and say you will take any appointment if someone cancels.

Lovely that you have children 👶. Take care. Xxx

Ok just going to through this in there Constantlycold but have you had your hormone levels checked ? Now alot of those symptoms are so similar to menopause or lack of oestrogen. Your young for menopause but if your lacking in certain hormones it can feel horrendous (I know I'm going through it) so so similar to other related conditions like fibro , arthritis, depression a whole extensive list of things. The sweats and cold thingy I have !. Anyway just a thought it may or may not apply but it's an area that alot of doctors never explore in women and our hormones are so important in the functioning of our bodies it is unreal. I never knew until I did alot of research. Take care x

Thanks for taking the time to reply to me, my hormones have been an area that they have been looking at for a long time, they keep checking my hormones and thyroid, I had one blood test come back with slightly raised progesterone levels and one with elevated allergen level. They are the only thing that has ever been slightly raised but both had returned to normal on retest. x

Hi

Think you're on the right track with neurology, burning hands & feet could be nerve related.

Your GP should be giving you medical help right now, I would make another appointment & write everything down before you go so you remember to tell her all your symptoms.

It does take a long time to get the best help/diagnosis but meantime you need help to function.

Old style antidepressants are normally firstly used off label to help sleep & calm things down a bit.

Anti inflammatory alongside another pain reliever.

Try rubbing Vicks on the soles of your feet just as you get into bed, sometimes helps with the burning.

Antihistamines for the itching.

I know how your feeling, I was 39 when mine started.

Take Care

Hi CheetieCat antihistamine for the itching thing that I have going on doesn't work, I have ended up going up to 180mg of fexofenodine without it giving any relief. It feels like it's my bone that itches, nothing I do or use can stop the itch, I've even taken scissors to my hands, the sharper and harder the object the better, but nothing actually stops the itch until it stops itself. This happens every night, I've tried looking at what I eat, drink, thinking if I change something then maybe it will stop, but I've exhausted all options now and have no idea what to try next to stop this. Thanks for taking time out to read this, it means massive amounts. x

Aw Constantlycold I hope you get some relief soon, the only other thing I can think of is capsaicin cream but you've probably researched & tried already!

It's just pants!!

Hi,

Do you have any other health conditions that might be affecting you, such as diabetes for instance?

I just wondered in case there could be other things affecting you. I've been through an early menopause but my tests came back that I was premenopausal and I went through full menopause at 42yrs old.

I also have other health conditions which impact on my fibro and pain as I have neuropathy (diabetes related) which comes across as burning in feet and itching, feels like it's in my veins and doesn't go away unless I eat something carby. Makes me feel like I want to chop that body part off, usually my fingertips or my whole foot!

I also get what I call bone pain which can stop me in my tracks as sometimes my feet can just go under me usually a joint (ankle, knee, hip) but I also have arthritis...

I hope you find the answers soon, best of luck x
