Unsatisfactory Diagnosis

Hi all, I was admitted to hospital on Tuesday this week due to a crippling sharp pain low down on the right side of my abdomen.

The first thought due to the amount of pain I was in and the location of the pain was a burst appendix. Blood tests were done, xray and then a CT scan. None of these showed any reason for my pain, which after morphine and rest has settled down again.

The doctor this morning came on his rounds and in his own words has said the pain must just be another symptom of the Fibromyalgia 😢 😢 😢.

This is the second time in 2 months that I have had an episode like this, so the apparent diagnosis given has left me feeling upset and angry 😡. It looks like the next time this happens I'm going to just have to grin and bear it.

Why is it that if something can't be found during the first investigations, it gets put down to your Fibromyalgia??? 😡😡😡

Just out of curiosity I was wondering if anyone else on here suffers with this sort of pain???

Yes I hear you hun- if I had a $1 for evry time I,ve been told "oh its fbro pain" I would be so rich. You are doing the right thing to present at A&E because not ALL pain is fibro I have presented twice in 18 years and been helped to ease off the pain, on one ocassion I had to be checked for a sub arachnoid haemmorhage as it was in my neck muscles going into my head..You are right not to accept everything is fibro..just pester and get help if it is too painful.

I think a diagnosis is Fibromyalgia is a kind of ‘catch all’ for ‘we don’t know why you’re in pain’.

I also have endometriosis and that kind of pain you describe reminds me of the kind of pain I get occasionally during ovulation.

I hope your pain has settled now? X

I totally agree with you. I wish I could say it could be a gynaecological problem but I had a complete hysterectomy 3 years ago. It was that surgery that kicked off the Fibromyalgia xx

Could be adhesions from your previous surgery.

Oh really? In that case you could have adhesions? I have adhesions left from previous surgery which can suddenly become painful. It’s frustrating that often we don’t get to the bottom of our pain.

A couple of years ago my mum attended A&E on a number of occasions. Lower abdo pain, excruciating she was crying. They said it wouldn't be appendix because of her age. She had ultra sounds scans blood tests, they could never find anything. Then one time the same thing only this time the Doctor could feel a hernia. What had been happening was this hernia had been coming out causing the pain, then going back in so all the test were showing up normal. So infact there was something wrong all along. She has surgery soon after to fix the problem and has been fine since. x

Hi

I was admitted to hospital with exactly the same as you a couple of years ago. They even booked me in for my appendix to be removed but then came back and said we are not 100% confident that it’s your appendix.

After that I became really ill.

It was initially thought it was my bowel and the bowel consultant sent me to have an MRI scan. This showed adenomyosis and I was later diagnosed with endometriosis.

Please go back to your GP. Take someone with you for support. It’s not normal at all and possibly is related to gynae.

I have been on morphine several of times and admitted to hospital. It’s hard to deal with.

Don’t give up. If you get nowhere with your current doctor, change to another until they listen xx

Hiya hun, it's definitely not gynae as I had a complete hysterectomy 3 years ago. I don't have anything left there 😊 but thank you for the advice xx

Just to throw a spanner in the works, (not literally), is there any chance it could be your gall bladder or gall stones, because, wow are they painful!!

Hiya hun, nope again sorry. The gall bladder was removed 20 something years ago. The pain is as bad as that but down where the appendix is xx

IBS? I am getting a lot of abdominal pain, often in one place. I thought it was gynae stuff as I used to suffer from all that but they reckon it is IBS. Waiting for scans..

It really is a minefield 😒.

Take care of you. 🦋

I was hospitalised recently with sever pain on the left hand side and it was found to be Epiploic Appendagitis which is quite rare and some doctors have not even heard of it.

You need to be pushing back because no one knows your body better than you xx

I'm a bit fed up of the NHS/doctors/the whole system.
