Period problems with fibromyalgia?

β€’5 Replies

Hello, I was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia 2 weeks ago. I never thought to ask rheumatologist if period spotting 3 out of 4 weeks of the month could be part of the fibro?

Yesterday I really frightened myself, I took a wrong turn on my way home and couldn't remember where I was. These are streets I grew up in and know well. What frightened me was why my brain couldn't grasp where I was, which made me panic. Is this part of fibro fog?

Hi SusieSquirrel, regarding the spotting please see your GP, not everything can be blamed on fibro. As for the not knowing where you are, this is fibro fog at it's finest. I drove past my road down to the next road pulled into a driveway and sat looking at a pink house and all I could think was "who has painted my house pink" I have had several episodes of losing myself, losing words, train of thought and now I just laugh and move on. Even my colleagues join in the game. When I said I was going to a wedding instead of "I'm going for lunch" they just said they didn't think much of my outfit πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜„ Fibro fog is scary the first few times it happens then it becomes part of who you are. I have found that embracing it is the best way otherwise it would send you bonkers! There are very much good periods and not so good periods where the fog is concerned. Don't worry there are plenty of friends on here to listen and share thoughts and ideas.

That does sound like a bad Fibro fog symptom. Being forgetful and finding it hard to process info is common.

I also have endometriosis and I know this can be part of the whole pain syndrome picture. I had problems with heavy bleeding which I’ve just been treated for.

Maybe talk to your doctor about your bleeding and see if you can get a referral to gynaecologist? X

Thank you for your replies. I will definitely be contacting doc. I have noticed since the temperature has dropped everything wrong with me seems amplified. Pains and fogginess have gone crazy. I am a self employed cleaner and really struggling to work

Many people seem to have very heavy and painful periods if they have fibro but personally I would have the spotting checked out by your GP as it is easy to blame all symptoms on fibro and that might not always be the case.

It must have been very frightening to not know where you were. I would say you were either in a lot of pain or very tired as fibro fog seems to get worse when those two elements are thrown in. I could imagine it must be very tough to do a cleaning job with fibro I know I struggle to do the homework.

I found when I was first diagnosed with fibro all the symptoms were more difficult to manage and very worrying. I found out all I could about the illness how to place etc and even though it has actually got worse in some ways I cope with it better.

Let us know how you are.x

Thanks for the great advice . I was tired and in pain at the time and will call the docs tomorrow
