What is wrong with me

Hi I’m new on here. I have been suffering pain, aching and burning sensation all over my body for as long as I can remember. My mum had fibromyalgia and I seem to have the same symptoms but my doctor says it’s just chronic pain and just keeps throwing painkillers at me. I work full time and I’m finding my 13 hour shifts are getting harder to get through with the pain and feeling exhausted all the time no matter how much I sleep. I seem to spend my free time these days either on the settee because I’m hurting so much or I’m in bed exhausted. I’m 45yrs old and feel I have no life. Thanks for reading xx

Hi

I really feel for you. Could you show some of your family and friends and also your GP some of the posts on here that it's more people than you that suffer and how excruciating the pain is. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

Thank you for the kind reply, family know what my mum went through but my doctor is another thing. I did bring up with him that it could be fibromyalgia but he just said it’s chronic pain and basically I’ve got to live with it. The last few weeks have been horrendous, one minute boiling hot and then cool, I can tell the weather by my aches and pains xx

Hello and welcome. Could you ask your doctor to refer you to a rheumatologist (they can diagnose fibromyalgia)) because you would like a second opinion? If he won't, could you ask to see a different GP at your doctor's practice? Maybe ask if there is a GP who specialises in fibromyalgia? Especially as your mum had fibromyalgia, then you should be investigated further. Hope you get some answers, take care and let us know how you get on x

My Fibro started out as mysterious aching tingling and burning sensations which gradually spread throughout my body. I have heard that Fibro can pass through families, so it’s not unreasonable to ask for a referral to a Rheumatologist who will be able to diagnose you. I am 47 and I’ve had it for a few years now. Take care x

Have you had your vitamin levels checked? Low D can cause pain, I believe. Whilst you are there have your thyroid checked too and get your results. Have you got arthritis? That might be worth looking into too.

I was so sorry to read you post, when I started i was given also given pain killers that didn’t do anything, after 6 months i asked for a private appointment with a rheumatologist, that was the best £200 I ever spent, he diagnosed me then added me to his NHS list. If that is not an option for you then perhaps then as Phlebo123 suggestion of a different GP might be a good idea. Do keep us updated, try to stay positive. Sending love and gentle hugs. Xx

healthunlocked.com/fibromya..., hello and welcome, I differently would seek out another doctor your symptoms sound very similar to fibro and you say you your mum had it, I have read that fibro for what ever reason can run in families, I have moderate my daughter slight symptoms at present. Being filled up with painkillers and being fobbed off with no answers is not the way forward, you have my complete empathy, doing 13 hour shifts no wonder you are worn out, your body is being constantly pushed with no proper restbite in between. Not all doctors are the same I eventually got seen at my surgery by another doctor who was terrific, totally different attitude all together, diagnosed my fibro and was not sent to rheumatologist which some doctors will suggest if they are not sure themselves. Let us know how everything goes for you, I posted a link if you would like to lock your posts then only our community can see. Take care xx

Hi, that's how I was for a couple of years ,then saw a different gp, and he said polymyalgia straight away, confirmed with blood test. Have you been tested for that.

Thank you everyone for your reply’s. After having what is probably one of the worst AL’s this last week I’ve rang the doctors and have an appointment with a different doctor, I just hope he’s not a locum as I’ve not heard of his name before at the surgery. The constant pain and aching have got so bad now with the weather changing and I’m so tired all the time I don’t have the energy to do anything. I feel so sorry for my partner as we don’t have a life. If I’m not working then most days I always end up in bed midday because I’m so tired. Fingers crossed this doctor will give me some answers xx

Fab doctor, forgot to ask though if he was a locum. He’s given me morphine patches and says it sounds like it could be fibromyalgia and maybe chronic fatigue syndrome. Don’t know if I’m pleased that someone is actually taking me serious or scared because I know what my mum went through, Plus we were hoping to sell up and move to a bungalow next year to make things easier for me but would probably mean a increase in the mortgage payments. We’d be mortgage free in four years but that would probably be extended as well. The thing is I haven’t told my partner that I don’t know if I can carry on with my job long term. I’m crying as I’m writing this as I haven’t a clue what my future holds and my partner of 19 years has been so understanding. I just don’t know what to do next xx

Daisy, try not to worry, the worry will do you no good.

Perhaps you might be able to reduce your hours in work to something more managable.

Also while a bungalow has the plus of being on one level which is great they are always more expensive to heat. Sometimes the best way is to keep the expensis to a minium.

Anyway glad you got a Dr that at last listened to the problems your having,, is he refering you to a rhumatologist?

P.S. Welcome Along,, Ray

Hi, no my doctor isn’t referring me to anyone and the patches aren’t working. The pain is so bad now I’m in bed most of the time as my heated under sheet is the only relief.
