Are fibro sufferers generally deficient in calcium, if so, why?

I am no expert but calcium deficiency is not normally associated with fibromyalgia direct!y. A common cause can be lack of vitamin D or lack of calcium in the diet. There are also a number of other causes including hormone imbalance. Lack of calcium is fairly common in the UK and lack of vitamin D as been associated with increased levels of pain in fibromyalgia. However this is a common problem and in reality cannot be confined to fibromyalgia sufferers alone.

Calcium helps the body absorb and retain Vitamin D. If for whatever reason, there is not enough calcium in the diet (then supplements should be considered), there won't be enough vitamin d stores. According to a programme I watched the other day, the body needs 800g calcium a day.

You are right hun- BUT I air caution taking vit supplements WITHOUT a doctor checking your bloods first, not many people know you CAN overdose on them if you intake too many and beleive me its a horrible thing and hard to reverse, a g.p will take bloods and check and will prescribe the right dosages of what you need.. I say often the High st famous shops are in prime locations because they sell us stuff we dont really need make a vast profit and most of what they sell is only a minute quantity of the label the rest are placebo and additives- which inturn can cause side effects, many are laced with a histamine that makes you itch like mad...

Thanks glad, my bloods always come back with low calc and take supplements, but know other sufferers who are also prescribed calcichew and steroids as a matter of course to treat fibro, low calc seems quite common :-S

then you obviously do it the right way-bloods first act on the results.

yes my dentist is keeping an eye on slight gum depletions-more recently i have noticed Hallitosis (smelly breath) even the cats dont come near sometimes..I have really upped my intake of milk (trying out S.fast Vitality shakes) and for the Halli I have been prescribed Difflam mouthwash -it might be the Sjorgrens causing this..
