I was wondering, with this condition if i could get help with glasses. I have a medical exemption cert for medicines. But at the moment i am currently off work & getting sick, which isnt alot. Desperately need glasses. Which i cant afford. Would be very grateful for any information. I was only diagnosed just over a month ago but have been suffering for years. Thankyou

The short answer to your question is no. I receive pip and am over 60 but I have to pay for my glasses. They are very expensive and our eyes are so precious.

I was going to say the same . I'm not sure if opticians do a scheme where you could pay monthly/ weekly, it's maybe worth an ask. Our eyes are important and you could be Making them worse.

I feel you, I’ve been wearing mine for years now, they are the most expensive object I possess, at this point they’re all scratched up, missing one of those tiny nails and never keeping on my face straight for long. Not to mention I’ve been tired of the design for a while... I’m not in the UK, but I’m basically blind and never got any discount to be honest. I’m not even dreaming of getting new ones. B***dy (edited by admin) expensive. They out there making serious $$ off people who can’t see.... the more you need them the less you can afford them..

Get your prescription from the optician then shop around online for cheaper glasses, somewhere like glasses direct but there are loads of places.

Like dizzytwo has said our eyes are so precious for us, I’m not too sure if somebody like S.......savers do any schemes monthly , I know my son does for his contacts. They can be very competitive with their prices, I think as well when I have been they offer a 2nd pair free. Let us know how you get on with any help as any info is helpful to read for our members. Although I have prescription specs for driving and reading for general day to day stuff and work I just use my pound shop ones. I am forever forgetting where I put them so having several pairs at £1 a pair works for me. Can't say they are as good as my prescription ones but at least I can read easily.

If you are working you have to have no more than £16,190 a year house hold income to qualify for help with glasses that’s before deductions.

Ask your pharmacist for an HC1 form, if you are on low income. This entitles you to free eye and tooth care, and various other NHS help.

You can quite often get free eye tests even if aren't claiming benefit and my glasses came from an online place just Google cheap glasses, sent the prescription online and they cost under £20 including postage. It's only if you want designer names or looking frames it costs alot

Hi, if you're in the UK and on a low income, yes, you can apply using the HC1 form, which entitles you to a few things. With the HC1 (HC2 if approved) you will only get a certain amount off your glasses and need to pay the rest yourself (even though it says "the full value of a voucher towards the cost of glasses and contact lenses), it will make it cheaper to buy and some places will allow you to pay bit by bit until you've paid and only then will you be able to have your glasses.

I have an HC2 and despite this, still cannot afford to buy my glasses. Sorry, I know this negative but you might want to know this. You can find more information on the NHS website under "health costs".
