Recently diagnosed...So much to learn

Hi...firstly I must apologise if my previous username offended anyone...that was not my intention...Anyhow... I am back...like I have said previously, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, hypermobility joints and osteoarthritis recently...it’s a pain...most days pass me by and I have achieved very little...I work full time in a job that is stressful, with a challengingly client group...I love the job but it’s putting a strain on my health...how do others cope.?...the dizziness, IBS, painful joints and muscles at the end of the day I am so worn out, I could weep...I take co codamol during the day and gabapentin at nighy... I was given amyltriptaline a couple of days ago which has helped me to sleep better, but have caused grogginess in the morning.... I haven’t really discussed this recent diagnosis with my colleagues or manager as I just want to get on with my job... I am so glad that I discovered this forum as now I don’t feel like I’m on my own...many thanks

Hi, welcome to your new name 😁

With amitriptyline can I ask roughly what time you take it. Some people find taking it earlier in the evening helps to reduce the morning grogginess. I think it's suggested something like take it 12 hours before you get up in the morning a guide.

I would also suggest having a talk with your employers. There may be some reasonable adjustments that can be made to make your working day a bit easier for you xxx

Thank you...I take it around 10:00 pm .... I will take it earlier tonight. At the moment I manage my own diary so I work from home at leat one dat a week....I try and space out my visits / meetings but I’m kind if working it out on my own.... I tend not to be in the office that much as the lighting affects my balance...some days I just feel like a hot mess,😩...but finding this forum has really given me some reassurance.

amitriptyline should be taken at bed time as it helps a better sleep

Yes, but sometimes taking it earlier can help with the grogginess the following morning, but it still helps with sleep x

It makes me too drowsy if I take it in the morning does it help the pain ?

I don't take it personally, so can't talk from personal experience but I do know of people who have taken it and found it helped with their pain as well as sleep x

I've been taking this for over a decade and I initially had the same problem, feeling like a zombie for most of the day. My GP said this is not uncommon and suggested I take it at 7pm instead of at bedtime. Hey presto - no more zombie-mode ;D Everyone's different of course but even when I've had to drastically increase my dosage, it's still better if I take it at 7pm. I think the earlier suggestion of taking it 12 hours before you get up in the morning is a very good guideline. My only exception is if I'm out in the evening, in which case I take it when I'm 60-90 minutes away from home, but trial and error is the best route for everyone. Good luck :)

Hi, I take gabapentin 300mg 3x aday, I take 150mg of Amitriptyline at about 10 pm at night I go to bed about 11.30 pm, I do not feel the drowsy feeling in the morning. Both tablets seem to help with the pain. I am on such a a high dose of Amitriptyline as it is to help with my anxiety.

I am also on Tramadol, nobody seems to know why I am not like a zombie the amount of pills I take. I hope you soon find out what suits you. Gentle hugs.

I'm on 10mg amitriptyline which is helpful for a decent night's sleep and I use an electronic blanket which is good for my joint pain...I take co codamol during the day.. I'm still trying to find what works... my rheumatologist recommended I buy Turmeric capsules as that's meant to be good for pain also... have any of you tried it?
