Ongoing pain after sacral break.

I had an accident and broke my sacrum twelve months ago. I also have osteoporosis. I have pain in my lower bone, pain in my lower butt and upper thighs all the time. My neurosurgeon said that my s1 and l5 bone is not healing. He said I can have surgery which would involve using a long rod which would fuse the bone. He said that because I am small and thin I would feel the rod through my skin. I didn't want the surgery at first but I seem to be getting worse so I'm thinking of,having it. Does anyone know anything about the s1 and l5 sacral bone because I can't find any information about it.
