Totally Stuffed

Does anyone have a really dry nose, mouth & sinus pain? Mine is so bad at the moment, I’ve even had to book a drs appointment! I’ll gladly cancel the appointment if anyone has any tips (other than steam). I’ve run out of ideas. I haven’t been diagnosed with Sjogren’s Syndrome but think the problem has been due to Amitriptyline. Since I had my steroid jab last week I’ve felt so much better & halved my Amitriptyline to 50mg. My nose is very dry & I’m unable to blow it but feel almost as if I have a real blockage between the back of my nose & throat. It even affects the way I speak & my husband has recorded my snoring, which is horrendous!

Hi TOD - It sounds to me like it could be several different things - It could be allergies, it could be Sjogrens, it could be sleep apnea... Nothing anyone but the docs can tell you for sure.. I use colloidal silver for a nasal spray. It helps clear up infections and moistens the nose and sinuses.. Also, if you haven't tried it, petroleum jelly can moisten the nose and hold the moisture in... Best luck and let us know what the doc says...

Hi C. I’m pretty certain it’s not Sjogren’s as I have RA/RD as well. I’ve never heard of colloidal silver (sounds more like birth control or kitchen cleaner!) but I’ll have a search. I try & avoid petroleum but use coconut oil for my sore nose. I do try steaming but it doesn’t ever seem to shift anything. Pharmacist visit today, I think. I’ll let you know. Thanks so much for your reply. Nic xx

I actually have RA and OA as well as about 7 other autoimmune diseases... including Sjogrens - they are frequently found together... I use coconut oil for most things as well, but petroleum seems to last me much longer... Let us know what the pharmacist says today..

I was tested and they found out I had sleep apnea , so worth asking gp to refer you for an overnite test , just wear a little machine strapped around wrist and it will record through the night. Can your ask GP does any of your meds irritate your symtoms ? They might recommend something to try ie a nasal spray, I do tend to steam but I put some Vick every night just under my nose , temples , neck , to breath in, there used to be a Vick’s vapour machine you could buy as well, I’ve used that when Ive had a bad cold. I do tend to keep a bottle of water beside me at night as I do wake and want a drink, I squeezed a piece of lemon in last night that tasted lovely refreshing. Hope you get some answers very soon .

Hi Curly! Yes, I’m pretty sure it’s Amitriptyline. What, if anything did they suggest? Even down to 50mg is more than some people take. The ENT must be full of people with the same symptoms. I always feel dry but this time it’s face ache! Other people just get colds, I get sinusitis. I’m already on the max of paracetamol per day. Yes, pharmacist it is. I don’t really want to block a drs appointment for someone who’s in more need. Nic xx

I cancelled my GP appointment as I found out that my grandchildren all had colds. The pharmacist just recommended the usual nasal spray which never does any good. I’m just going to ride this for a while & see what happens. Thank you all. Nic x
