I seem to get bitten more often even though I use deterrents and the bite always seems to itch more and remain swollen for longer.x

Is it part of having fibro or autoimmune disease. I have always had a bad allergic reaction. i have been given antihistamines for a week. x

I couldn't say but quite a few research samples are starting to wonder wheth we fibro could be autoimmune linked and so many fibro sufferers seem to be diagnosed with immune problems.x

Yes, as I have such a low immune system they take weeks to heal up and go away. I would imagine there are a lot of us like this xxxx

I remember when I was in my teens (many years ago!!) I was stung by a wasp and my whole arm swelled up and I had to see the doctor. I always get massive red swelling around the area of the bite when bitten by any insect. I think it must be something to do with our over reactive or weird immune system x

Yes, I thought it was strange how badly they affect me, but reading your replies, it makes sense. Swollen, itchy, seem to linger a long time too. Thank you for sharing

Horseflies are my worst, have had severe reaction the past five years (every year at least 1bite during June) results in infection needing antihistamine, anti inflammatory and antibiotics. Mozzies love me too and I had over 70 bites following a week in Corfu despite using every known protection ! .....my OH believes eating marmite protects him...... I’ve discovered that tea tree is the best of all in prevention and treatment. Toffs store sell a larger bottle of tea tree oil £2 which can be applied directly with a cotton bud to the bite and there’s a produced called Teangi (I get from Home Bargains £1.99) which is a witch hazel & teatree cream that can be applied to most skin conditions - I use it for bites, cuts, grazes, sweat/heat rashes, dry skin, (my teens use it for spots & pimples) it’s uses are endless. I also found Avon Dry Oil Soft Skin products work a treat & leave you feeling & smelling great !

I was an Avon lady until January when I had to give it up due to the Fibro. Have always used the Dry Oil Body Spray but still get the odd bite which swell up,itch and take ages to heal. I seem to react badly to both tea tree and witch hazel.

After being bitten by the dreaded Scottish midges last month I used a cream called Anthisan and they have healed much quicker. I thought for a while it was probably linked to Fibro.

Hi. They put me on antihistamines Fexofenadine due to reactions to just about everything, also Hydroxyzine. I used to get eaten by horseflies as a kid in the country. Since I had Glandular Fever in my late 30s have been prime meat for everything. Got anaphylactic from wasps about 4 years ago but any bite results in massive swelling. Ended up in A and E bank hols Monday night with severe allergic reaction. Did have 3 bites but rash under arms across body and swollen ankle thought better get checked. Didn't want shingles again. Body started to go into shutdown after about 4hrs so was pumped full of all sorts and left 5hrs later. Swellings still took a week to subside though itching only bad. However I use Aqueous Calamine Cream. Cheap, not smelly and not bright pink like it's brother. Also bathe area in lavender oil slightly diluted as don't like tea tree smell. Am also on methotrexate for psoriatic arthritis. So little or no immune system left. Both auto immune diseases according to my consultant and gp. Lynnx
