Does anyone on here take Duloxetine?

If so, have they helped with nerve pain?

After having bad reactions to Gabapentin & Pregabalin, this is next on the list. I’m keeping fingers crossed! xx

Hi Hun, I’m taking duloxetine and it’s definitely helped with the nerve pain. I personally found I had really awful side effects when I took 60mg. It made me incredibly sleepy etc. However, it really helped with the nerve pain. So my gp put me on 30 mg instead and I have much less side effects and it still helps with the nerve pain. Recently though I’ve started having breakthrough pain and my pain clinic consultant upped the dose to 40mg and I’m tolerating that too. I’d definitely give it a go hun.

In the meantime though, please take care of yourself and lots of love and gentle hugs.

Ps let me know how you get on with it Hun.

Hi there, I was on Duloxotine for about a year and a half, 30 mg and it definitely helped with the Nerve pain. The only downside is trying to come off it. I had terrible withdrawal symptoms from this and it took me around 12 weeks to actually get off the stuff, I have never had a reaction like that before with any medication.

So please just be aware of that.

Wishing you all the very best and I hope it works for you.

Neil

Thanks Nelly2. I took Gabapentin for years until it was stopped dead by the Pain Clinic. I honestly thought I was going to die as I was taking 3 x 600mg daily and I didn’t have much choice as my surgery wouldn’t intervene! I started on them again recently and had a bad reaction. It was very strange & the same with Pregabalin.

I’m now keeping fingers & toes crossed but it will be a week or two before my surgery do anything! xx

I am on 90mg daily of duloxetine and it has not affected my neuropathy one way or the other. I take it for my depression for which it's highly effective. I hope you get your nerve pain successfully treated asap.

Its not a painkiller but helps - it also helps smooth the edges off as well re my mood more than anything. Beware though not to stop it immediately or do what I did and ran out and there was a problem with my prescription so was cold turkey for 4 days - withdrawal symptoms were horrendous and can be dangerous

Yes Frankiebee, it’s like Amitriptyline, originally developed for conditions such as anxiety & depression but was discovered to be an effective painkiller in lower doses for back pain, joint pain, fibromyalgia etc. I was phoned by my Rheumatologist on Thursday who said the Duloxetine might be more effective, in place of Amitriptyline for nerve pain (peripheral neuropathy in my legs plus jolting pain in my fingers and the stabbing pains on the side of my left thigh). Most of my pain originates in my back but I’ve had one decompression operation to put a spacer between L4/5 & basically my back is knackered, hence trapped nerves. The Pain Clinic experience was horrific with my particular ‘Consultant’ giving me really bad advice. I should have insisted on a timed & monitored taper of the Gabapentin so did the best I could with the tablets I had left. I did the same with Buprenorphine patches but luckily I had lower strength patches so I could reduce them more slowly. Never again will I trust a Pain Clinic. There’s only so many breathing & pelvic floor exercises you can do!!

Sorry, I got carried away here! I may have put you to sleep. 💤💤 Happy Easter everyone. xx (I’m not called Temple of Doom for nothing) 🙈

I’m on 80mg a day and mine is for allodynia, it’s help with my aching skin but not so much when someone hugs me xxx

Are you really sensitive to loud noise as well, tas69? xx

Yes my thumb is permanently on the volume button on the tv remote, I also have to wear tinted glasses because of light sensitivity xxx

Yes, I know the feeling! I wear reactive glasses too. Are you able to cope with supermarkets or anywhere that’s busy? I can’t take all the movement of loads of people, sounds & colours. All food shopping, clothes shopping & more is all don online. xx

Yes I’m the same I do everything online too, providing my fibro fog is having a good day, some days I can’t spell or read everything just looks German to me and as for the keyboard well that’s just none starter, I can noe get by with dictation and having my iPad and iPhone on speak speech. I’m okay with pictures and numbers though xxx

I’m just being weaned off duloxotine it didn’t really help with my pain and my depression was worse. I’ve been having blackouts and other side effects which is why I’m coming off it.

I’m sorry to hear that it didn’t work for you Lianne. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will help me but I’ve got no high expectations as a lot of things I take seem to cause problems. It’s all very hit & miss. The drug companies 🤬 must love us. There must be something out there that works. xxl

Not much works for me I always suffer really badly from side effects which usually outweigh any benefits. Therefore I rarely take medication as my pain and fibromyalgia is bad enough with the extra I’ll health. I am in constant pain and nothing works.

I really hope that you can get some relief without the side effects hun. Good luck 😉 xx

Thanks Lianne. I’ve had this awful cough that seems to be doing the rounds here. We are also grandparents to identical triplet boys who are now 6. Seeing them at least every week is fantastic but it comes with a downside. Germs x 3!! It gets passed round the family & ends up with me again. This time the cough has lasted over 4 weeks. No point going to the doctor but it does seem to be improving. The worst bit is the total pain around my upper body, ribcage etc just from coughing. Diazepam seems to be the best relief especially when my back goes into a spasm. Take care. xx

Aww grandchildren are the best !! But germ machines 😂😂 I’ve had the flu three times this winter and Ive now got a bad chest infection. I’m on steroids and antibiotics atm. Have only moved off the settee to go to bed for the last threes days haven’t even been dressed. I’ve been fighting the fibromyalgia for over 30 years and all the other crap that comes with it. I’m just about done in now can’t fight anymore.

Really hope you get rid of that horrible cough and the pain around your chest and lungs. Gentle hugs 🤗 hun and love to you and the germ machines 😆😆😆xxx

The germ machines are otherwise known as the 🐷🐷🐷!

My, you do sound as though you’ve got it rough at the moment. I’m very lucky with a fantastic husband but I’d be lost without him. Getting up in the morning is the worst part of the day. If I can do it in stages - all the better. I can’t manage a shower on consecutive days but it feels good to have hot water on my back. Everything seems to be done in slow motion then.

Please don’t give up. There must be someone to help or visit you. Are you claiming all the benefits you’re entitled to etc? Hope you improve soon. xx

Bless you hun It’s so difficult just doing the simplest of tasks isn’t it ? I struggle to dry my hair and lately it’s just ‘free style’ 😆😆. Cooking is a virtual no no now. Can’t cut or chop often use scissors ✂️ on my food. I tend to live on sandwiches it’s easiest lol 😂. I live alone so life is difficult. Don’t get me started on benefits 😂😂😂 they’re causing my depression 😆😆😆 getting to the stage where I want to say shove em where the sun don’t shine !!! I’ve been fighting for housing benefit since August still no nearer getting it as they’ve dragged it on so long the qualifying rules have changed !! I’ve even had a professional trying to sort this out 😂😂😂 I give up its far too stressful and my health is suffering. Anyway major moan over with 😊😊😊. Have a lovely Easter 🐣 with those 🐷 🐷 🐷 and good luck with your your meds xxx

I also had a bad reaction to gabapentin.. woke up aspirating vomit ..plus other issues. I used to use Duloxetine for a few years until I started having a rise in liver enzymes for which it's known to cause. They wanted to monitor me but keep me on them, But I didn't like the way my brain and emotions felt flat (best description I could give it). My daughter uses Amitriptyline and says it's great for nerve pain, back pain etc.

Duloxetine is licensed as a fibromyalgia treatment, one of the very few drugs that are. I took 90mg initially and now I take 60mg. It helps me a lot but we all vary so you need to try different doses with your GP and work out what works best for you.

cymbalta was one of the few drugs that worked for my neuropathy, of course because it has Nasty sexual side effects men you know what I mean after just one does things quit working for a week after stopping the drug

Blackwitch profile image
Blackwitch in reply to eric11

Sorry to hear that Eric11. It’s Sods Law that you get the side effect that you least want! I’m waiting for a drug that gives me the ‘weight loss’ side effect. ToD x
