Feel dreadful when I wake up!

Can't remember the last time I woke up with the joys of spring!

I wake up feeling dreadful, aching all over my back, neck and shoulders hurt like he'll. I have to slide myself into a sitting position for a while and the slowly get out of bed. It takes me a good couple of hours to start to feel ok.

It even effects my eyes they feel watery and tired....what to do?

Anyone got any tips? I would be grateful. Thanks

Sorry to hear this I am sure this is how may members feel when waking I know I have suffered like this for many years now and i wish i had some answers to give you. I have tried everything under the sun.

Saying that do you suffer with any kind of arthritis at all ? I have it through out my spine and the last year it as gone in to the top of my spine effecting my neck. I have tried pillows of every shape and size to no effect.

I know this is the last thing you want to hear. But have you been checked over for OA ? I can not take medications to help my pain. But if you can maybe going and havng a word with your GP maybe the way forward. I hope you can find some relief soon It's not nice to wake up feeling so bad every morning {{hugs}}

Hi Dizzytwo,

I am waiting to see a consultant at the hospital and will mention it, but all I ever get is pills that don't touch. I am always stressed that doesn't help, but then the pain makes me stressed, so it's a bit of a catch 22....

So sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time at the moment. Have you mentionned all of this to your GP? If you are currently on medication it could be that it isn't working efffectively and this is why you are having so many problems! Also, we moved to a memory foam mattress with an extra memory foam topper and got new pillows and this has drastically improved how I sleep and my pain in the morning xxx

Hi DanielleGemma,

Strange really as I went on holiday last week and felt the best I felt for a long time, but the mattress was firmer. May be I need to look into my mattress and pillows. Thanks.

I do gentle stretching exercises before I get out of bed and find that helps that right achy feeling. A bit shower can also relax the muscles and then I gently smoothed in something like Musselflex on the bits that are most achy. If I have to go somewhere early I get up there but earlier as my body doesn't respond very well to being rushed. Horrible feeling isn't it.x

Yes rosewine, it aches and burns and makes me feel tired and sometimes bit sicky....but I know I'm not alone and you have to battle on....x

Accepting that you are going to wake up feeling sore and stiff in the morning is often the first step forward.

I know that mornings are one of my worst times and that I need time to get moving.

I set an alarm so I take my morning meds at least an hour before I need to get up. Meds are kept at side of bed along with a drink. This means by time I get up my meds are in my system and starting to kick in

I also do some gentle stretches while in bed just to get my body moving. It's as simple as just flexing your ankles; stretching out your arms and legs etc

Allow yourself time to get up and get moving ... open the curtains and let daylight in ....especially if the sun is shining.

Try to focus on something you are looking forward to later in the day ... no matter how small it is

Hi Hazel-Angelstar,

Accepting....Yes that's a very good idea....as at the moment I am expecting! And that's not good, I will change my attitude....x

I found for me that learning to accept the way fibro affected my life was the turning point in me learning to manage it better. It also means that you don't start to beat yourself up constantly because your body is not working the way you want it to xxx

Hi Mydexter,

I fight with pillows all night 😂. I might have two, then one, then none then one again...drives me crazy. I will look into the Temper ones. Thanks

Reading through all your posts and find some comfort in that you all feel like I do in the morning. It's not all in my head!!!

No it's not all in our heads Sue....but I have to say I went on holiday with my son and daughter and their families last week and I felt the best I have in a long time....Distraction I think they call it ! 😊 I wasn't focusing on the pain as I usually do.

This was one of the things I said to my rheumatologist that I missed most....those sunny mornings when you threw back the duvet, opened curtains and windows and thought " hello world, here I am" 😁
