Informing esa I have pip

Had my assesment for Pip last week. Now waiting

My question is, if you get pip then do I automatically get ESA.

I was on carers before getting p.i.p my ESA was £188 afortnight then automatically after getting p.i.p I started getting £252 a fortnight so in my experience yes you do, unless you have any other issues, good luck with your p.i.p.🙋

That way we would be able to help you with some advice help and support with your illness.

I am not a benefits expert. As far as I am aware you do not automatically get ESA if you are awarded PIP.

They are completely different benefits and have to be applied for separately.

But I do have a lot of experience with Fibromyalgia having suffered with it for 36 years.

How long ago were you diagnosed?

Hi, I've only being diagnosed 6 months ago. But have been in denial for 4 years. My anxiety and PTSD are the main problems. It seems my life has been on hold but saying that I feel much better on medication rewisca is sort of helping as is meditation. 🌻🌻

I do think that when you finally get a diagnosis it can actually totally floor you for a while.

All of us here (including all of the Admin Team) have Fibro and many of us have other conditions to deal with as well.

I have never heard of that medication before.

It is great that it seems to be helping you.

Rewisca comes as as pregabalin has a traumatic affect as in tinnitus, feeling dizzy, and just doped up most of the day.. but feeling upbeat for now lol 🌻🌻🌻

Ah. Pregabalin is often known as Lyrica too.

It's great that you are feeling so good.

However, I just wanted you to be aware that there is a little known side effect with this medication in that it can make your mood plummet.

Obviously it doesn't affect everyone, but personally I always think it's good to know what to look out for when starting new meds.

I genuinely hope that it continues to work for you.

Yes lou, it can do that on occasion. But it's a small price to pay for getting somewhat better. I do find utube an inspiration in relaxation and other interesting facts

Yes it is certainly a matter of weighing up which is worse the side effects or the pain.

I used to do yoga for many years, but now I can't manage a class I do gentle stretching at home.

Meditation is wonderful if you can master it.

I definitely can't! lol

you have to apply for esa separately it can take some weeks so start now. look for the phone number as it can be done over the phone then they will send you a questionnaire to fill in. you will also have to go to have a medical (this is not evasive more questions). good luck

I'm in same situation awaiting outcome of assessment for pip and contacting esa . Never been out of work before and it's all new and scary

Yes sue, I always worked and yes it's scary and a very new experience for myself. I applied for ESA4 months ago, so just waiting for the PIP results from my assesment. The asseser was very good. I didn't expect a spelling test or a maths test. 🌻🌻

ESA, is a separate Benifit and therefore needs to be applied for.

If you do receive ESA after applying, and are awarded PIP you will automatically be eligible for other benefits, on top of esa. But you wouldn't automatically get ESA without having applied first,just because you are awarded PIP. Hope this helps.

They both totally different. I first got ESA and applied for DLA which changed onto PIPS this year. Mine is contribution based so can't get other benefits of help like help with rates and opticians but if on income based you can.

Thanks for the info everyone. I think the whole system stinks. I've struggled to stay in work since diagnosis 5 yes ago but lost the fight after pernicious anaemia set in too. Now I have to prove that I'm unfit for work????? Would I really given up a well paid job if I wasn't? I've even got to convince the bigwigs for my own pension. Who said the NHS were the caring employers.? Makes me mad!!!!!

I too work for the NHS and an in the same position. I'm really struggling with my work. I've got fibromyalgia, IBS reflux and feel sick constantly; raenauds syndrome and now been diagnosed with myofascial disorder. I too would love to keep working but I'm really struggling. I do wish you all the best and hope you get what your entitled too without problems

Thanks Angela thankfully the decision to stop working was taken out of my hands as I was unable to do the reactive strategies needed for my patient group. I think I would have just continued otherwise. I'm still trying to come to terms with being unable to work tho. Somedays I question whether it's all in my mind or I'm being lazy but then I read others comments and this helps me realise this condition is debilitating. I wish the powers that be could spend one day in our bodies that would soon stop all the disbelief. Take care and good luck.

I understand and I.m so sorry for you as I too love my job.

I'm finding concentrating very hard and find

myself panicking with things I used to find easy.

I know I'm going to have to give it up but very worried about if I would get pip as my doctor keeps telling me I'm better working. But as you said I wish she had one day of my condition.

You have to apply for ESA separately and the criteria to get it are different from PIP. PIP is paid to disabled people who do work and to those who don't work, if they meet the criteria for daily living and mobility. So it is possible to get a PIP award but not get an ESA award because the DWP decisionmaker decides that you could work.

Benefits and Work benefitsandwork.co.uk publish excellent guides on applying for ESA or PIP and these are invaluable in completing the claim forms. You have to join to get them but they are worth the cost.
