Hello everyone, I hope everyone's coping OK. I have a question re Pain Management Solutions. Do they ever prescribe painkillers to patients or do they work on an alternative self help programme exclusively ? I've been coping with chronic FM by taking Co-Codamol and Amitryptiline but perhaps it's time I found other ways of coping with it. Thank you for any input you can give me.

I also use Amitriptyline at night, plus Ibruprofen (I was on Cocodamol then Naproxen but switched as they upset my stomach) and Lyrica (pregabalin). There can be a lot of side effects with Lyrica and it's difficult to wean off of, but it is recommended for Fibromyalgia pain and really works for me. My GP has also referred me for physiotherapy, acupuncture and hydrotherapy to help manage pain. I've been getting chiropractic treatment every two weeks / month and that really seems to help too. I'm under a chronic pain self management service too so feel I am really covering all bases on pain management!

Thanks. I envy you for having such a helpful and supportive GP and hope things continue for the future. My doctor is so dogmatic and unhelpful so I'm changing to another medical practice in my area.

Having a good gp makes a huge difference. Hope you get more support at the new practice.

Pain Management or Pain Control can differ throughout the country and can be disappointing in some cases. TamarynS has a good system and a willing doctor to be able to get the help she has. Unfortunately in my case I was given a booklet and CD and told to lose weight and go for long walks. Not very helpful at all!

However, it is always worth asking for a referral from your doctor, you may be one of the lucky ones and there are quite a few fibromites who have had positive experiences.

My own personal feeling on taking meds long term is that over time, you very often have to increase the dose to get relief, which may not be the solution you seek.

I wish you well.

There is normally a nurse there who can get medication for you Codrydamol from the Docter are better then Codamol that's an over the counter medication Amtrypaline are for depression ask your Docter for Pregabalin Hope this helps but I'm not a doctor

Hi Bennett1943

I have never been to Pain Management Solutions, but as Hidden says, most clinics for any type of medical condition usually have qualified staff in attendance who can prescribe medication. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

My experience with the pain clinic was they asked about my meds and told me it was up to my GP to prescribe..which I was happy for him to. They kept on mentioning about going to a class once a week where pain management was discussed as a group...kinda like support, but then they said they couldn't get enough ppl interested in that. That surprised me..but that's my experience. Good luck x

I have had fibro for years now and then in 2008 found that I have bone degeneration in spin and nerve damage.. I go to pain management and have different treatments done on my back [none of which work and cause more pain most of the time. I read on here alittle while ago about 2 different pain patches for fibro. can anyone tell me what they are? the person that was talking about them said they helped. tired of the pain, only sleeping 2 hrs at night and being over weight. when all this started I was 140 pounds, now after the steroids and all the rest I'm 235. I've tried everything that I can physically do and watch what I eat and still don't lose it. any suggestion? that's wishing you all pain free days ahead. jan1022
