Numbness in feet and legs

2 weeks ago I went over an unpaved and rocky road in the car, I was driving. The next day I woke in agony with my back, went to a physiotherapist. The next day agony getting out of bed with a shooting pain from the middle of my back, eventually got out of bed, some numbness in my feet but went after a while of standing, went to osteopath and then GP who gave me diazepam.

Numbness did not go so saw an orthopedic doctor/ surgeon I had. Been to before. Had an MRI of lower spine, nothing new still degeneration but no slipped discs. No explanation of why I am getting numbness.

At this point numbness mostly in my feet, especially after lying on my back and walking on carpet.

Any clues or answers from online community would help as I am at a loss as to what to do. I am supposed to get a nerve test, but that's really for periferal neuropathy and I don't have that. I have had that in the last in my feet but don't anymore as I took B12 and alpha lipoid acid and it seemed to clear up.

It's definately to do with the bumpy road, would appreciate any help.

Hi Provo2015

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? I am so genuinely sorry to read of this numbness my friend, and I experienced something similar a few years ago. I went to my physiotherapist who told me it was caused by a compressed sciatic nerve. I still do exercises today to help alleviate the problem.

NHS Choices intimates that it could be Peripheral neuropathy that it causing the issue. I have pasted you a link below to their cache:

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Thank you for taking the time to answer. I am at a loss to know who to go to for a diagnosis. I am due a nerve conduction test soon. I have been to a physiotherapist who is at a loss to know what it is. The orthopedic consultant doesn't know. I am going to a chiropractor next week.

I had tingly feet a few years ago and had a nerve conduction test which didn't show anything. This numbness is nothing like what I had and the tingly feet pretty much resolved though I did take B12 and alpha lipoic acid too.

I have to believe something happened in my spine as it came right after the bumpy road incident. Its definately worse when I am lying down on back or front. My feet just feel dead and going up my ankles.

I am in the UK right now but live overseas so I would like to see the right people before I leave. I am just suprised that the orthopedic doctor/ surgeon had no idea or the physiotherapist.

Did you gave sciatic pain or just the numbness?

Have you any further ideas who to see?

Hi again Provo2015

It is very strange my friend? You could try a physiatrist who may be able to help with this? I have pasted a definition below:

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) physicians, also known as physiatrists, treat a wide variety of medical conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons.

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

I am in the UK, I live in Bermuda, but my Dad died do I am here and they don't have physiatrists. Bermuda would be worse as its so small and they definately don't have them.

Hi Provo2015

There is a website called UK HealthCare that you could look at who can put you in touch with a physiatrist, but I do not know what the charges would be? Sorry I am not allowed to paste a link as it is a commercial site. Good luck my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Yes I had found the same site I think, unfortunately it's nothing to do with .britain! It's in Kentucky. Shame but strange to call themselves UK.

Managed to get the nerve test for Tuesday, privately but at least managed to get it put forward.

Thank you for your help, though.

Only people I think now are muscular neuro doctors. Not sure how I will get a referral though.
