back for a bit

so I haven't been around for a while, decided to ask the doc to check my vit d & b12, told him couldn't remember if they had been tested, there are no blood tests on my records (been with this practise for 18 months), so he ran a few. vit d has come back low so now on tablets for that, also blood sugar highish so having fasting bloods on wednesday. pretty hopeful that the vit d will sort me out or am i hoping for to much, it will take about 3 months, but only have 6 weeks supply of tablets.

Hi snappy1

Happy to see you back but sorry you have had these problems with your health.

It is said that many of us who live in the northern hemisphere are deficient in vitamin D and the further north you go the worse the problem is. I was the same last year but the tablets sorted me out. They are stronger than the vitamins from the chemist and supermarket and need to be taken for the full course. I expect you will have to get a repeat prescription in 6 weeks.

I hope too that your raised blood sugar is not indicitive of something more serious, fingers crossed for you.

Take Care

X

Hi Snappy 1, good that you now have treatment for low vital d.

I think you may find that it's something you'll have to have treatment for off and on. It's something I've had to take a couple of times. I can't say that it had a positive impact on my pain levels, but found it perked up my energy levels.

I really hope that vit d eases your pain and fatigue. Please update us as to how you find the treatment.

Hi snappy1 it's good to see you ☺ yes vit d & b12 seem to play a big role in our general health and its good you asked to be tested and now have these vitamins. They do say that so many people are deficient in vit d.

I hope they help my friend, do let us know.

Peace, luv n light

I am genuinely delighted to hear form you and I sincerely want to wish you all the best of luck with your supplements and your blood test. Please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Hi all really interested in this as I had my vitamins test done due to finding out a weeks back that I am hyperthyroid and told to get vitD tabs over the counter wasn't given any ideas as to how many units to take just that it was slightly low so now I don't know if I am taking the right amount - suppose once I have a blood test for thyroid in next couple of weeks I can ask for vitD blood test to see if this dose I am taking is correct - yet you all seem to have been prescribed them? 😔 Suppose it's a trust thing😝😝 take care all. 😘😘🤗🤗

Hi Toolie....Had mine done last year and Vit D count was low so prescribed supplement. Had to go for a review test and now been put on a higher dose....so far I haven't felt any benefit as far as fibro is concerned but it must do some good.....

in reply to Trikki

Thanks Trikki - see how it goes - all I know is I am fed up of taking all these tabs🤦‍♂️ but suppose I am more lucky than some. Take care 😘😘🤗🤗

Your GP should be prescribing them for you at the correct dosage. A GP should be repeating blood tests, in case the dosage needs to be adjusted.

in reply to Fudge57

Hi fudge yes I am due a blood test in a month as just started taking Carbimazole so will ask for bloods for vitD whilst I am there and will leave a message for GP to ask what dosage I should be taking of vitD3 - the amount I am taking at the moment is from that famous health shop 400I.U. and only once a day because I am on other meds for other conditions and don't want to overload my body.

Have tried looking up what this is equivalent to in mg's but had no luck so far wish they'd realise we aren't all chemists. 😁

Your GP will have to request the vit D test. You can't just ask for it to be done whilst you are there. I was on 1000 IU to start with. And now am on 800 IU. Maintenance dose. This is why your GP should be prescribing them and should also be checking for any interactions with other medications........ There is a website you can go on and check for such things. I think it's called Drugs.com??

in reply to Fudge57

Our GP must work different to yours as all I need to do is leave a message and ask for this to be done and then pick up the blood test print off from reception so I can ask the question also as to what amount I should be taking and will receive a response from GP either when I return to surgery at reception or she will phone me.

Thanks for your response

😁

That's a much easier system to my GP's!! x

in reply to Fudge57

Yes I think it helps as it cuts down on taking an appointment from someone who needs to see the GP where a phone call wouldn't be good enough. 😁

I've just looked on the Vit D box. And it says they are called Colecalciferol 800IU is equivalent to 20mcg (micrograms) Don't know if that helps??

in reply to Fudge57

Thanks fudge think that means I should be taking the whole bottle then 😂😂😂😂😂 I will just carry on as I've been doing and will make a visit to the surgery in next few days and leave a message for GP as to requesting bloods for vitD alongside the thyroid test and what amount I should be taking. 😁

Hi snappy1 nice to hear from you. Sorry you have been feeling ill. I hope your Vitamins sorts this out. And you begin to feel a bit better. Good luck with the fasting Bloods. Take care xx

Hi, I had my bloods taken and I was low . my doctor put me on furic acid tablets for 3 months. It seems to be OK for the moment but I. Don't know what will happen in the future.I also have low vitimin d 6 so I am also on tablets for that twice a day.

That's outrageous that you have not had a blood test done in 18 months. Should have been done when you joined the surgery. My recent blood tests came back that I was also vitamin D deficient. Was put on a very high dose to begin with for 3 weeks. And now am on a maintenance dose. Which will be long term. As I very rarely, go out. To be honest, I don't feel any different. You may only have 6 weeks of tablets as your GP may change the dosage. Do some research on the subject. x
