Recording a PIP assessment

I have been declined ESA in the past due to the assessment process taking. Loads of assumptions and pushed answers on their behalf. The question is am I able to record the assessment via voice record? I would like to keep this handy as I am never happy with the result happy and would have evidence if anything was altered and be used in evidence for complaints.

Hello and welcome to our friendly fibro forum where you can get advice, support, help and information. Have you seen our Mother Site fmauk.org ? Here you can learn about fibro and includes link and guides.

If you look to the right under Related Posts you will read other member experiences of PIP assessments. You could also type in the search box your query.

Under the Related Posts you will see Pinned Posts where you will find instructions on navigating the forum and include locking your post we we recommend for your internet security.

If you look below Pinned Posts you will see Topics with all manner of categories where again members experiences can be found.

I hope to see you chatting around the forum.

Hi there

Yes, you can record your assessment but you must inform the DWP that you intend to record it.

I think some ESA assessment centres have recording devices for you to use, but if not you will need to make 2 recordings of the assessment and hand one recording in to the Assessor before you leave.

If you covertly record the assessment without the DWP's knowledge not only will your evidence be inadmissible, but you could also run the risk of your whole potential award being thrown out.

I hope this helps.

It is legal provided you inform the DWP first.

You cannot just make your own recording.

See my message above. I do know this for a fact as I have been through the process myself.

Hi tweedlekeil and welcome to our wonderful forum ☺I'm sure you will come to find the forum invaluable in chatting to others who are going through the same experience as you & talking to others at different stages of their lives with Fibro & learning from their experiences.

It does help with the whole process & i wish I had found the site years ago. I have had Fibro for nearly 30 yrs & I'm still learning about it, like we all are.

i see you already have some good advice which I can't really add to, just wanted to wish you luck with your assessment and say Hi.

Peace, luv n light

Pip assessments can be recorded but as BlueMermaid3 says it has to be a device where you can simultaneously record two copies such as a double take recorder or CD recorder. At the end if the assessment you keep one copy and the other us handed over and sealed just in case it is needed. We used two individual take recorders. Do practice beforehand as it us surpringly difficult to position them correctly so you pick up both sides of the conversation.

If you just turn up on the day and ask to record it they may refuse permission. I wrote on my completed Pip form that I would be recording and also rang them up beforehand to confirm they knew. I am a belt and braces sort of person. When we went into reception they had a record of this and had paperwork which I had to sign at the end of the session. They also told the assessor and asked if she was OK with this. Covert recording as Lu says is not permitted and could jeapordise your claim. Good luck with it all.x
