Hi DEBBIEWILLS

Assessments can be stressful, so preparation is the key.

Hopefully you copied your form before sending it off. Reread it thoroughly to reacquaint yourself and practice your answers.

Do not go alone, this is extremely important. If you can't take a family member, ask a friend.

Ring the centre and ask for your assessment to be recorded, they will not do this if you have not asked beforehand.

Be very aware that you will be watched from the carpark to the waiting room, assessment room and when you leave. Be on your guard however friendly anyone seems to be.

Do not carry anything, ask your companion to have your various documents in a bag and when questioned ask him/her to hand them over for you.

Do not take public transport if you have said you are too unwell to do so. You will be asked how you arrived, so a taxi or private car would be ideal. Do not drive yourself!

There is usually a long wait in the waiting room, where you are being watched if you have said you cannot sit or stand for any length of time.

I am sure other members will give you more hints and tips as well as good wishes.

Good luck

Kay

Thank you. I don't understand how they can put you in the support group for 3 years because you have a degenerate disease then call you in for an assessment! It is very stressful which doesn't help your illnesses. Will write down all your pointers and take them with me. Thanks again xx

Hi there

If you type ESA Assessments into the search bar at the top right of your screen, hopefully you will be able to read up on other posts on the same subject.

Get as much evidence together as you can. The DWP will not write to your GP, so ask your doctor to write you a letter explaining how your illness affects you. It will cost around £20 to have this done but is worth having.

If you Google for a Disability Advocate in your area, you may be able to find one that will come with you to your Assessment.

If at all possible, don't go to your Assessment on your own.

Wishing you much peace

Lu x

Hi Debbie,

i was in the same position as you and then had my PIP assessment and before the PIP result came i got a letter stating my ESA assessment was cancelled and that i would be staying in support group. I could only conckude from this that whilst the two assessments are very different they either used my PIP assessment info or the decision maker looked at my case and decided it wasnt worth snother home assessment.

Best wishes and do hope you get the outcome you hope for.

The last time I had to fill the form in for ESA I put an appeal in and they decided that my claim was valid and cancelled my appointment, which is why this has come out of the blue xx

Im afraid Debbie a lot of the time they seem to work by their own logic, with any award for any period they always have the right to review you and they can do it again following week if they wish (although it would obviously be quite ridiculous)
