Tens unit?

Hi has anyone tried a tens unit for pain? Its like electrical pulses into you muscles to help with pain.

I have two different TENS Machines. I have a four pronged one which I use for my lower body and a two pronged machine that I use on my neck and shoulders to help with migraines. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck my friend

Just read your reply Ken. Never thought to use with migraine, can you let me know details of the machine you use and your technique please.

Hi Kitten-kat23 I bought my migraine TENS on amazon. They have several different brands and they are quite cheap. It is a lot smaller than a normal TENS and only has two nodes on it. I attach both to the base of my neck. It works quite well for me if I can get it on before the horrid pain starts. As I have a great deal of symptoms such as an aura etc I can usually do this in plenty of time.

I just read something on migraines, it said I lemon squeezed and two teaspoonful of hymiliaya pink salt mix with water and drink. As I don't have migranes, but my interests are diversified. Who knows???

I had a tens machine when I was giving birth to my second and third child as the pain was in my lower back and can honestly say. "I swear by them" they're absolutely fab and will be investing in one myself for the pain in my shoulders, neck

Have two a 4 pronged one like TheAuthor and a portable one which is wireless. Too be honest the 2 pronged is hopeless as the mode doesn't suit me. The other which I have had for years is better but only takes the top edge off. The pain specialist serious you use it for 4 hours a day on a low tapping mode which does seem to help the most. I had one which unfortunately broke and haven't been able to replace it which had a massage and EMS programmes and I found the massage particularly useful. Hope it helps.x

I Have a tend machine and I swear by it to take the ecge6 off or like the author..to help with neck and migraine tension.I find it helps.I'll try anything.

Mine deals beautifully with lower back pain but I have to sit down. Tried walking around the house with it but it was not so effective. Still one hour without pain is pretty good.

Wish I'd had one for my 3 labours; that was quite a test. Probably not available in the 1960s

I tried tens and it was quite good, I got referred to st Thomas hospital London for the pain clinic. Spent two weeks there learning about tens and pacing etc. Which resulted in a spinal cord stimulator op- basically a tens machine internally with a remote control. I highly recommend it as most people got so much relief. Unfortunately mine shifted and every time I turned it on it felt like electric shocks.

I just think we have to try everything we can as eventually something will work.

Just wondering if you could give me advice on the spinal cord simulator, I got an appointment with the pain specialist and was going to ask for one Is it implanted into the skin I heard they are marvellous for lower back pain cheers Terri

I used to wear a tens machine all the time for my lower back pain after prolapsed discs. It was very effective and I wouldn't have been able to work all those years without it. Then I suddenly went completely deaf in my left ear and had a bone conduction Implant implanted in my head to help with the deafness. The implant has a magnet and gizmos that convert sounds to vibrations, so now I can't use a tens machine because the electrical impulses could damage the implant. I miss my tens machine!

Yes I find it helps sometimes it can just take the edge of off it wen other meds aren't helping

Yes, I've had one for years. A friend's sister who is a physiotherapist let me try one about 25 years ago, then I bought one. I think now you can get ones that don't have wires. The wires can be really annoying!

Hum! Have, never used! Husband bought for himself and found he should not use because of Baclofin Pump so gave it to me. How in the world does one get the sensors attached when in pain? I haven't figured that issue out - I only want to be still.

Sorry to be ignorant but what is a two pronged and a four pronged tens machine. I have a tens machine which has two outlets for the wires which each split into two, so is this a four pronged that I have please? x

the smaller machine I have has 2 outlets that just have one wire on each. that tends to be the snap type of machines.

I like the other Fibro Friends here have found Tens machine very good for lower back pain, although not quite so good on neck and shoulders. Like DogMama, I would find it impossible to attach pads to my back. Luckily Hubby's always happy to help. Pain was so bad last week, I was lying on my stomach in bed almost in tears, no sleep all night. Used the tens, pain was soon easing off, so much so that I fell asleep for more than 2 hours. So yes I wouldn't be without it. Sending gentle hugs to everyone and wishing you all a good nights sleep xx

I use it daily. its the best pain relief out there. I actually have 3 unites. a 2 wired one with snaps and 2 4 wired ones with prongs. That way I can hit various locations on my body at the same time. I didn't need to buy the snap type I found out after shelling out $100. They have adapters I could of got for $10.
