Gidday, all my lovely friends and fellow sufferers.
I was asked by a few lovely people to put this still-life, which I had displayed the first day, back on for display. It was the third still-life I have ever done
If you look at all three of them, in the right order, you can see what you can learn within a few weeks and without prior studies. All you need to be able to hold a pencil in your hand and be willing to learn.

Thank you for sharing this, it's beautiful. I think it's true that it's amazing what you can learn in a only a few weeks, no matter what your interest is.
My interest is in decorating candles and small wooden boxes, paper mache animal shapes.
Looking forward to seeing more paintings.

Some people say they do not have any talents and I don't believe that. I do believe that many of us get told from early age on that we have no talents, or we are no good for anything , or simply get discouraged when we try something. My Mum always told me to learn something useful, as there is no money in art, unless you are famous. That's why I started so very late in life when I was practically too old to do something 'useful' . Now she is proud of me. Besides there is a lot of money in art.

that is amazing.the lace looks real,i cant draw at all although i remember in junior school i learnt to draw horses and drew and painted a living room scene.these were down to a friend who loved horses and encouraged me and the best teacher i ever had who encouraged me.now i stitch and knit.still cant draw!

My dad used to paint -not a talent i inherited.i did inherit his love of gardening.my mum taught me to knit around age 7,i got hooked on cross stitching whilst working in a newsagents around 1977 and the first magazines came out,i also made my own clothes from age 11-when dress material was cheap and readily available,Does anyone remember fabric shops?
Oh yes, Hidden - and market stalls full of wonderful fabrics. I made my children's clothes as well as my own and the occasional jacket for my husband. Can't believe the ridiculous prices we have to pay now!
even thread is so expensive now.
I remember fabric shops and spent many happy hours making my own and my children,s outfits.
Now the fabric costs so much it is twice the price to make your own.
As it happens I could no longer sew anyway because my hands go into dreadful spasm as soon as I try to hold a needle, even sewing a button on becomes a trial now.
My sewing machine gets out from behind the sofa on the odd occasion to sew a seam that has undone but nothing new being made.
Hi Ellj, I used to make clothing for my kids and myself too, once upon a time. I loved it. Perhaps painting is an alternative which might not send your hands into painful spasm.
Sadly anything involving grip so paintbrush too does send my hands and fingers into horrible painful spasms so my craft days are over I think. That means I truly appreciate seeing others lovely talented work and that gives me pleasure.

same here-cant hold a decorators paint brush,
my sewing machine was last used 14 years ago when i made curtains for my house.couldnt thread the needle.!!thats why i knit or cross stitch -can do a few rows here and there when hands permit.

What an Artist you are fantastic, it does help if you can do some kind of hobby I do knitting my needles are always on the go, even when we go shopping have knitting will travel. It doesn't matter what you can do as long as it helps to take your mind of the pain and if it gives you more, just think how well I achieved this regardless.

I wish I had the knowledge and talent to comment properly on your pictures. I'm afraid I'm not very arty, despite having two sisters who are. One even works as an art therapist for people with mental health issues. I think for me it was not helped by having an art teacher at school who used to say "rubbish, any one can draw if they just try" in a really bullying sort of way. So I drew a pencil picture of a swan that for me was really good, or so I thought given what rubbish I usually managed to produce. Sadly all she did was say how child like it was. Kinda put me off for years.
All I can say is I do know what I like, and I definitely like your style as I have enjoyed every picture you have posted so far. If I see something that makes me smile or leaves me with a warm glow then to me it's good because I like it. That's my philosophy on art any way.

Margaret dear, that is a great philosophy. If someone likes my pictures and gets a good feeling from them that is all I can wish for.
Your art teacher does not deserve the word teacher. people like that can do so much long-term harm in a persons life. I did not really want to paint this style, I wanted to paint in a more modern style, but my teacher told me that I have to learn the rules before I could break them. In a way that made sense to me but now I have problems to break out of them.

That's what I now know to understand about the "teacher". As an adult I realise that if all people need is encouragement, then she wasn't very good at encouraging was she. But as a child (around 11 I think) you tend to just take these things to heart and not look at them objectively don't you.
What with that and having a junior school music teacher that in front of the whole class told me I couldn't "hold a candle" to any of my three sisters when it came to playing the recorder, it's a wonder I'm not scarred for life. It was true but I didn't feel it needed pointing out quite so bluntly or publicly. Luckily my Mum agreed and was so fuming about it that the very next day she marched into the school to complain to the head teacher.
Was quite a surprise as although she is a very caring and loving mother/person, she isn't the type to assume "her little darling" is always in the right no matter what and march off to school making demands (bear in mind this was late 60's when parents rarely took it on themselves to do that sort of thing). But she did/does object to teachers that don't at least try to bring out what talent a child has, no matter how small it may be. Probably helped by the fact that my Dad was head of chemistry at my senior school so she knows only too well teaching isn't just about what you know but is as much about how you impart it.
You never know one day I may try art again. I am trying the new craze for colouring in and surprising myself with a few attempts at shading with colours but still feel it's very amateurish. Still I enjoy it. xxx

Sadly I don't seem to be able to devote as much time to it as I would like. I have no idea why as I don't work or even get out and about, but what little I do still seems to get in the way of things like that. Weird.

It sure does, just started today.....dot to dot for adults, not as easy as you would think but great fun, I don't work or get out much either and our friend fibro stops me from doing things around the house, so to take my mind of it I knit, colour in, join the dots, loom knit and spend time with my dogs, time goes bye xxxx

How extremely nice of you, Midori. I never heard such wonderful feedback here where I am. People look at it and say nothing. I did not have much confidence and gave up painting after a very short time.

Thank you so much, Archiesgran. I am really only a beginner . There are the first 2 still lifes here which I posted a few days ago and this one is the third. If people don't get bored of me I might put a new one on every day . I do not have may and the ones you have seen so far are not in my possession any more either.
I might start painting again soon, when I find enough confidence to do so
