Hi there

Do you know what other conditions your GP has already ruled out first, because it is very important this is done before a diagnosis of Fibro can be made?

If your GP's view is that we have Fibro because they can't find anything else, I would seriously suggest you see another GP.

Your best bet is to ask for a referral to see a Rheumatologist.  These consultants specialise in Fibromyalgia so they would be able to tell you for sure.

Good luck and please do let us know how you get on.

Wishing you much peace

Lu xx

Bluemermaid3 , France's 1, I AGREE, you need to get new GP!!!!!One of the key tests is the Trigger Point Test.  Fibro has sooooooo many symptoms that are also related to other illness. Trigger point test is key to  Fibro.

While I agree with BlueMermaid3, I wonder if you have muscle aches and pains in your back and arms? Do your arms tire easily and you find you have to rest them often? ...long before your simplest task is done? Do you get knots of burning pain in your back? Do the cramps prevent you from lifting and using your arms normally at times? What other things like these have you experienced? This question is for anywhere you have muscle...your legs, neck, jaw and so forth.

Doctors normally come to  the conclusion of fibro when blood test have ruled out illnesses like RA and thyroid and certain vitamin and mineral deficiencies.  My GP did that and also arranged for a MRI scan on the thoracic area of my back which at the time was causing the most pain.  This showed degeneration of the spine but in his opinion not enough to explain the extreme pain I was having.

He did give me iron tablets as he said a deficiency in iron could cause the retless legs and burning in feet and calves.  Unfortunately in my case it did not work but worth asking about. Many fibro people are also deficient inmagnesium and Vitamin D

If none of these tests have been done like the others I would see if you could get an appt with  a specialistx

Hi frances1

I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are suffering and struggling in this way and I sincerely hope that you can find the answers that you so desperately desire and deserve. I have pasted you an FMA UK link below entitled:

What is Fibromyalgia and I sincerely hope that this can go a long way in answering your questions:

As the others have said, if the best your GP can come up with is Fibro meaning ''he'' doesn't know then maybe you could ask to see a different GP? As this does not give me much faith in this individual?

I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken
