Hi im a 68 yr old male and have suffered with chronic pain since a bad fall in 1988, as ive got older the pain has got worse especially in my sacrum area i find it hard to sit or stand for long periods. I have been on morphine but its not helping so i have cut them back to 1 a day im hoping to cut them all together if i can.

Does anyone else have any ideas or know of any meds that help reduce the pain the doctors say its fibromyalgia.

Would be glad of any help as my life is hell at the moment.

None of us are medically trained so can only speak from personal experience but the one med. that helped me with the neuropathic part of the pain is Pregablin (Lyrica). I also take Zapain and Ibuprophen and have Lidocaine. patches. I am sure others will be along with other ideas.

I found Morphine patches did not agree with mecas I had massive irritation from the adhesive and the pain relief was negligible. Do hope you find something that helps.x

Thanks for your response i dont know why our doctors here dont suggest lidocaine patches or pregablin....maybe there too expensive... i will ask next visit thanks.

Yes they are expensive. I try to only use the lidocaine patches when the neuropathic pain is really bad as I know it was good of my doctor to prescribe as they are expensive any and he only gives me three packs of 5 at a time. I havent tried it but I believe something called Gabentin (think that is how you spell it) is cheaper and is of the same group of drugs as Pregablin and some people have found it actually suits them better.x

I personally find gabapentin excellent for my neuropathic pain. To be fully effective I had to titrate the dose up to 1800mg a day (600mg three times a day) - I understand that a common mistake is to give up on gabapentin as not effective without gradually increasing to a really effective dose. Again, I'm not medically trained so cannot advise, but this has been my experience.

All the best,

Will 🙂

Thanks for that i was on gabapentin ages ago im sure i wasnt on that dose so found it not effective maybe my doctor should have upped the dose...it may be worth trying again as i need to find something that works. Thanks

I have been under a pain clinic and even had a spinal colomb stimulator fitted but had to have it removed as it really didnt help.

the best they can do is morphine and that doesnt help either so im coming off it.

I am so genuinely sorry to read this and I sincerely hope that you can find some relief to your pain. I am not medically qualified to recommend medications, and what works for one may not necessarily work for another. There are plenty of strong pain drugs that you could discuss with your doctor but since you are on morphine they may not want to prescribe them for you? I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Thankyou i have cut the morphine down from 60 ml to 10 mls but have to take lorazapan to help twice a day or i wouldnt cope, the acupuncture session also helps.

Does anyone suffer with stinging and burning in the back passage and find it hard sitting for long periods and worse travelling in a car.

Do you have any idea of can be taken or done to help

Ask your Doctor to check your vitamin D levels, or maybe try supplementing with vitamin D3.

I take a safe dose of 5000iu D3

(for up to date safe doses of D3 vitamindcounciland )

Taking 5000iu D3 cured among others, my tailbone pain, I could not sit or stand for long without hurting. I also shifted from cheek to cheek to help relieve the pain, (though there are two types of tailbone pain I was told.)

My Doctor said I would never cure it. The 1000iu dose Dr. gave me to help raise my vitamin D blood level, I coincidentally noticed helped my tailbone pain for a few days then all pains came back again, so a member on HU advised me to take a look at vitamindcouncil and look into taking a much higher dose, the 5000iu vitamin D3 dose cured my tailbone pain (among other pains.) overnight.

I can tell when I forget to take my D3 as all pains come back within that same day.

Not saying this is what you have 7437 as we are all different, but apparently 85% of us here in UK are either low or deficient in vitamin D and most do not know it.

I would never have guessed that I was vitamin D 'deficient.'
