Anyone having probs with their eyes?

Looby profile image
27 Replies

Am not sure if this is associated with a flu virus which has "floored me" for most of January. Now, I have very sore eyes, and having to use Systane and Omega 7 to relieve the discomfort.

Optician is sending me for an Opthalmology check at hospital, just to check there is nothing else affecting sight.

Sorry to those folks I've been having a dialogue with...I have been avoiding using the PC and Iphone while have been unwell.

Hi Looby

I am so genuinely sorry to read of your eye problems, and I sincerely hope that you feel better soon. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck with your Ophthalmology appointment. It is not something that I suffer wit myself, the only problems I get are allergic reactions to some of my plants as they make my eyes go very red and weepy looking.

I have pasted you a link below to the NHS Choices cache on dry eye problems and I genuinely hope that you find it useful:

nhs.uk/conditions/Dry-eye-s...

I am also so sorry to read that you have been floored by the flu, and I hope that you are beginning to feel better. Please take care of yourself and I want to gneuinely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Thankyou so much for the helpful reply Ken. To obtain an appointment in my own area would have been 8-10 weeks, but fortunately my husband is able to drive me to the nearest City, so have one in just 2 wks. Hope this is just temporary glitch!

I definitely have been experiencing eye problems recently. As a matter of fact I was thinking I need to speak to my GP about it. They are very dry, itchy and I also get blurred vision at times. I'm using eye drops which help a little.

Me too i think it is time for me to go back on the eye drops, they have been sore for the last day or two.

I think mine is probably a side affect of amitripiline , but i think that i will stay on them for now.

Im not in the mood to break in a new tablet when this one works.

Swing and roundabouts. :)

This is a serious matter :-/

Playing on the swings and roundabouts is not going to help. In fact, being out in the fresh air may exacerbate the problem :-D

I wear goggles. !!!

Would you recommend a manufacturer, make and model please?

Bear in mind it took me six months to find and buy a dive mask which fit and was comfortable. As it does fit, it doesn't let in water nor cause pain. Most importantly I got the colour I wanted :-)

in reply to Telynores

No idea. somebody gets them from work :P

Damn and drat, have to use my mask, wonder what coral and fishes I will see :-O :-)

Watch out for the big ones with sharp teeth, i will be really mad at you if you get eaten

but but but, I wouldn't have any problems no more :-D

in reply to Telynores

Now theres a novel solution..Get eaten by sharks. Problem is the nearest sharks to me are at sea world in Brum and the last time i went they were not very big.

:O

We have the basking sharks off the coast, I've only ever seen the dolphins though :-) I did go swimming in Australia a couple of hours after a bronze whaler had been caught on that beach. Funny as I'd seen a commotion earlier while waking the dog, didn't know until the evening news :-O They aren't very big :-) We used to have to go out on a long jetty to a fenced off area (electric) in some parts, doesn't bother me much. Some are nice to swim with :-D

We could scuba in Kens aquarium!

in reply to Telynores

Now thats a thought. :P :D

This brought back my own memories of living in Oz.....

What a life wasn't it?

I lived near Adelaide, the bronze Whaler experience was on a trip in 2010 at Henley Beach. Later in the trip I was swimming in one of the bays around Sydney harbour. I'd gone around a rocky outcrop and sat there for a while. On returning an elderly lady asked where I'd been, she was concerned that a shark had got me, I laughed.

Around that time a friend of mine who harvested Abalone around the Eyre Peninsula had been attacked by two sharks and never seen again. I didn't know until March. Peter had told me that his biggest fear was of sharks.

When I die I'd like to be dropped into the ocean where it's known there are great white's, we've messed up the food chain, it's the only reason they attack........Me Shark Food :-D

Make sure they check your tear ducts they may be blocked.

I do get sore eyes accompanied by blurred vision, I just rest my eyes for 10 mins or so and i'm good to go for a while.

Hope it's sorted quickly and easily

Thanks Lou. I do have blocked tear ducts anyway, and have to have Systane drops for the dry eyes.

However this is different...cones on suddenly, with a really uncomfortable pain behind the eye socket.

The vision disturbance is rather like migraine without the nausea, can last from an hour to several hours. Sumatriptin does help to ease the pain, but not the loss of sight.

As it is not constant, am trying not to be over concerned and always have my prescription polaroids handy!

Blocked tear ducts is as far as my knowledge goes, it's so hard to say whether it's fibro or not, mostly my blurred vision can be solved, occasionally i'll get the feeling one of my eyes is being pulled the opposite direction and my vision is warped, but fortunately for me I don't get the pain you describe.

Ah the joys of Fibro I'm sure your right and it's nothing to worry about, your doing the right thing going to get it checked :)

Eye problems is another thing to chalk up to Fibro for many as it effects the muscles around the eyes and near enough everything is controlled/worked by muscles plus signals to make things work are interrupted by it and one you find is eyes don't focus/change to light change sources like used to.

Also many meds like Amy causes dry eyes whole list out there like a whose who!

hi yes i have very dry eyes which bother me more when im alseap . i wake up not being able to open them and have to insert gel into them about 4 times a night and during the day . consultant said my natural lubrication is block and suggest washing the innder edge of the lids with baby shamoo mixed with boiled water with acotton bud rubbing gently back and forth . it did not make anny difference they still dry .

Could it be Sjogrens?

I have this auto immune disease along with fibromyalgia and RA and I believe it is not uncommon. In Sjogrens the eyes are dry and gritty - I use artificial tears. You could ask the ophthalmologist to test for this.

Best wishes.

So sorry to read you're not doing so well. Dry eyes are very difficult, especially when it carries on. I suffer quite badly atm and eye drops make little difference. Do you find it affects your eyesight at all?

It sounds like your doctor is doing the right thing and hopefully you'll get some answers soon.
