I found crutches easier than my walking sticks, as they are easier on your hands / wrists. Whether they would help you walk further depends on why you have to stop. The other thing I've found is that using 2 sticks or crutches makes me walk slower and rush less, which helps with pacing myself.

I hope you find a happy balance.

I have to keep resting cos my legs and feet ache after 20 mins of walking but I do like to walk quite fast

I know It's wont be easy Manu, but have you thought of pacing yourself more?

Are you wearing the correct walking shoes/ boots, If not, this may be distressing your feet causing then to ache more.

I do hope you find a solution soon :) xxx

I do I pace myself everyday Ryan and I wear skechers there very comfortable

Have you tried a foot massager Manu? They are comforting and relaxing.

I personally use one a few times a week and find it ever so soothing.

Have you had your feet checked by the Chiropodist recently? Just a thought ?

I have a full body massage every 2 weeks and what is a chiropodist ryan

A foot doctor, someone that trims your nails, checks the pulses in your feet and recommends suitable foot wear for tired feet!

in reply to

Or you could just steep your feet in warm basin of water and massage them with your fingers!

That is a tough one my friend, as walking sticks and crutches etc only help you walk better and safer but not further. I sincerely hope that you can find something that helps you.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Hi I managed with a stick for a while but had to support my wrist with splints as the pain was excruciating after , I bought forearm crutches next , and the pain then spread to elbows and shoulder joints , you could try a tri walker like Ken , but first it might worth having a chat with occupational health at your local hospital,

I have now bought a wheel chair as I suffer with fatigue and pain I do have scooter but find pain in my arms to much.

As far as stick goes flat handle in shape of palms is more comfortable than a standard handle if that helps at all but again try a self referral at your physio dept at local hospital ,

Good luck Chris xx

Are you talking about walking for leisure in the woods for instance ? If so walking g po!es can be very helpful. If its walking around shops or on pavements perhaps 20 mins is your limit at the moment. Make those 20 minutes count.

I can't walk more than. 20 minutes because of back problems. I've just accepted it now as if I try more I end up crippled and not able to walk the next day. Last weekend I was on my feet walking or standing for about 2 hours and its taking me this whole week to recover.

If 20 minutes is as far as you can go maybe your body is telling you that's the limit.

Have you thought about a rollator, I use one all the time as I couldn't go anywhere without it! It also means that if you feel that you are going to fall or stuck in a queue, you can just sit down on the little seat and feel safe! For me it's a life saver and couldn't live without mine! I can not use sticks or crutches at all, they are a real hindrance to me and all they do is trip me up more, lol xx

I can't use one of them I'm only 31

I didn't realise that age was an issue compared to health as I have plenty of young friends who could not even get out of bed with the use of aids to help them, just saying .....

It's a big prob cos I don't want the looks I would get when I go out and the questions I would get from people at work if they found out I was using a aid

I can understand that but I was just trying to help, it's no joke to have this invisible illness, I was only 21 when I began being ill and have just had to accept it, people have to accept me for who I am or I have learnt they aren't really friends! Real friends will support and understand! For me, it was just my only way of going out with any dignity to have independence, I do empathise with you x
