Oh Hollie, thank you so much for letting us know how you got along with your dear daughter. Sad that you had to spend the night in hospital, but at least you now know what it is. I did think it would be quite likely to be costochondritis, but it's just not worth taking the risk. One word of warning on the codeine front, it is known for making people suffer with constipation, so just be aware on that front.

I'm so sorry her birthday has turned out to be so rotten for her, but might I suggest that when she is feeling better that you have an "unbirthday" celebration for her then......we have been known to have them occasionally on here, when I get dates wrong 😉🙄 Please though, do give her very best wishes and lost of positive thoughts from all of us here 😊😊🎈🎉🎊🎁🎊🎉🎈

Foggy x

I think the codeine is a far better option than oramorph here both are strong a painkillers that can cause constipation but oramorph can also subdue or lower breathing, not good if a it is a chest issue.

I now have had costochondritis many times and have been able to meditate and keep calm until it passes but when in doubt go to the hospital. I remember the first time my wife drove me to the hospital and within seconds I was in the crash room in a sort of upright bed and a dozen or so Drs and nurses it was only at that point did I realise how serious it could be!!

The woman who was trying to put the ecg stickers on me was panicking as they wouldn't stay on and I heard her say to another nurse oh my god I've got to give an Ecg to the hairiest Man on the planet. With that I lifted my oxygen mask and shouted I heard that just get a razor! Having had a similar procedure once before I knew she would have to shave the bits where her stickers needed to go she was so bright red faced!

Anyway amazing team checked me over and kept me in for one night and conclude it was acute costochondritis. Still a scary episode. At least she knows what to look out for and never hesitate to go to A and E.

Best birthday wishes and have another party!

Patrick

Sorry your Daughter had such an awful Birthday, but glad she now has somthing for the pain. Maybe the both of you could choose a day when she feels well enough, and celebrate then. 🍾🎁

I have had costochondritis for many years. I have found that putting wet warm cloths

on the chest helps relax the chest wall muscles. Over the years just knowing what I am dealing with helps reduce the anxiety and in turn lessens the pain. Wishing you well.

Ahh is that what it is "makes sense" 20 yrs ago my doctor told me I had pulled a muscle in my chest between my ribs ! Remember it like yesterday & seriously thought I was having a heart attack so sympathise with her, bless her, on her birthday aswel, what a bummer. I'm glad she's on the mend now & wish her a belated happy birthday & yeah just change the day to cellabrate like Blue suggested.

Sorry to hear this but hope ur daughter is on the mend. I get costo sometimes too. I find heat on the front and back helps, but it also helps to avoid tight bras! Also cold air can really hurt. All the best and I hope she feels better soon
