First hydro and skin on side of big toe cracked/painful - awful side effects overnight

Hello - after first hydro treatment which I had been looking forward to and waiting for over 6 months had bad experience getting out of pool as felt cased in cement and couldn't breathe properly...felt panicky but was quickly reassured that this is often the first time experience when you have been in the pool first time. Following some water felt better and very sleepy and a little achy but knew that was to be expected! However overnight, the throbbing pain in big toe and skin on side was cracked and this wasn't the case when I went into pool and don't really have an arthritic big toe problem - my arthritic joints are both knees, the right one mainly and both hips and lower back....Have rang the GP to discuss these overnight concerns as have been unable to get to work today because of pain and no sleep.

Did anyone here have a problem with the skin irritation? I tried ringing the hosp pool dept and had to leave message....GP advised to rest and ice and if toe is still in same condition to book appt before next session.

What you describe on exiting the pool is quite usual, don't like the sound of the sore toe though, don't leave it too long before you seek medical attention for it xx

Thank you...had GP phone consult and said sore toe needs looking at if not ok tomorrow in case of infection...I did notice ?sediment in bottom of pool and thought this was a bit unhygienic.....didn't make comment at time but perhaps I should. - you just don't know what 'nasties' you can pick up!

Overall not a good experience of first hydro treatment.

Thank you Ken!

Have visited G.P. he has stated its unusual for someone to develop skin irritations following hydro - but have been prescribed a cream for bacterial infections and should keep foot/leg elevated and not wear anything on foot for the air to help heal. I think personally the water was a little too warm and perhaps the chemicals in water were too strong although I did notice on my way out of pool there were sediments of ?black grit in bottom of pool where I was doing my exercises ...I shall mention this to the physio when she returns my call. Have waited so long for hydro nearly 8 months I am a bit down about this experience....
