Morning, I think it depends on how far you can walk! I have physical assessment tomorrow so will post on how that goes although I am going to phone them in the morning to see if I really have to go now I have been awarded standard pip mobility rate.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained though! 😁

If you have 10points or more on the mobility part of pip you will automatically get a blue badge, after filling in the form or on line. I did with no problem. X

Thank you! Will phone them tomorrow jax

Hi, I was awarded one without having any other benefits, I went to my local council and applied there the lady said that it didn't happen very often and had I tried claiming other benefits I said no that it was far too many pages to fill in and at the end you might not get anything anyway and I didn't feel that I was up to it at the moment. She asked me my problems and I told her many were similar to yours and she asked me to go to my doctors to ask them to write a letter to them comfirming my illnesses, I told her that I did want to go back to the doctors because she always increased my medication and I didn't want more, I had a supporting letter from my specialist and a repeat Prescription of my drugs, they said thet would consider it. After about 2 weeks I phoned back and was awarded on the information I had given, but was told it didn't happen very often. You can but try, give it a go. Best wishes.

Effect on mobility rather than any condition qualifies, so a collection of ailments may not be necessary. Each local council issue blue badges using Department of Transport

guidelines allowing a small variability into proof required beyond the automatic provided by PIP / DLA.

It is all in the remit of your local council now but a supporting letter from Gp or specialist about your difficulties always helps.

I don't know whether you are already on any mobility benefits asnthat always helps but as Poppy Poppy says the council can decide to award youna Blue Badge even if you aren't.

I say you have everything to gain and and nothing to lose.x

No harm,in giving it a go. I got my first one three years ago; turned down first time and then appealed and asked for a walking assessment and was awarded one. They are only interested in your mobility and so fill in the form thinking of your very worst day.

You do not have to be in receipt of any benefits just have difficulty walking.

Good luck😀🐼

I Had great difficulty this time although I had my Dr's letter and already had two over 6 years? I told them I could only walk small distances and that the carrying of shopping bags was a no no but they still kept asking more and more questions. I eventually was in tears and my friend took the phone from me and had a word with her. After some ten minutes she handed the phone back to me and the Dr concerned told me that I had not mentioned to them that I had a large part of my bowel removed and always needed to be close to a toilet. She told me that if I had made this clear I would have had instant acceptance. They are seemingly being swamped with people wanting blue badges but when they speak to them they find out they are not passing their criteria ! Good luck and tell them everything .

I can understand that councils are being more cautious in handing out blue badges, especially given that many want them due to free parking rather than the wider spaces.

Saying that I was granted mine despite not being on any benefits. But because I couldn't access more than one shop if I went into town as the pain was so great.

Finding now that more and more councils are charging in car parks. Ours does. It is a minefield trying to work out whether you have to pay or not when going away. In my local town they have taken steps to stop disabled parking on roads that are convenient for the shops. I was talking to a lovely guy in the library and he said that he can't use the main town car park as there is a barrier and he can't reach out to use it.

I think all people involved in parking decisions should have to be trained in disability awareness. No-one I have spoken to has a clue what I am talking about. My favourite is 'if all the disabled spaces are taken you can use any of the other bays' grrrrrrrr!!

hi their you can if your on higher rate Motability take care bigalan

You apply online. Type Blue Badge into Google and the website is a gov.uk one. All the criteria are set out there. If you are not on the benefits that qualify you, you can still get one with a medical assessment being done by your Council after you apply.

Hi Crackers1

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? I think the consensus is that it is worth applying as you may be eligible? I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck with your application.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Ive applied and waiting not on pip etc but not someone that's going to abuse it as if going to shop rather walk as sort of donkey/carrot thing so keep me mobile but theres other times i struggle to get to bathroom even

Like other day got up the road and by time i got back that was it for day as so worn out just didn't do anything else as took into the red zone too much balance starts to go and my breathing which is poor at best now mind bit better now cooler/denser air.

Mind can't take the cold either as freezing as temps dropped a bit! Grrr

But they say give you a physical assessment if they do though? but im not trying to pull wool over there eyes though.

But as said above many abuse Blue Badges

But many that have are in our boat so you think they look ok!

take note of these days to show how hard it is for you, you need to work on your worst days and try not to come out with what you can do occsionally

Plus the other thing is when parked like at shops you can use right bay so can open doors properly as with my hip find hard getting in and out of cars as can't open door fully so always try to find an end which often means further away from doors and i can't carry much/hold it as have spine damage and arms/hands don't work properly.

Of course some people get them for less than that! Depends on the council that you live in! I think it should be up to your doctor they see you the most and how you struggle everyday! I'm finding it hard to drive now been really considering getting a mobility scooter so I don't have to use my legs as much!!
