Hi all I have such a bad pain across my shoulders and up the back of my neck can't seem to get rid off. I had my hospital appointment last week and they said I can't have my pain relief injections any more I don't know how I am going to cope. Standing up at work all day and the rain don't help any suggestions.

I used to have injections in my shoulders and like you found them helpful, I was told that these can only be done two or three times because they can be detrimental to bone density in the area treated, I've had both shoulders operated on now and have full movement although still painful at times. Did you get any explanation at the hospital. I do hope you find some relief soon xx

I had x-Ray,s done on my last visit knees, hip, hands,he said there was a lot of wear and tear that there was nothing they could do for my right hand And that he wanted me to have a bone density scan still waiting for the appointment. Of all the pain,s I have this is the worse because it goes into the back of my head and gives me a headache and sickly feeling.

Oh dear, the only thing I can suggest is a wheat pillow that you heat in the microwave, I always wrap mine in a thin pillowcase once heated so you don't hurt the skin xx

Hi 9661

I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are suffering and struggling so much and I sincerely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to these issues. I have had several DEXA Scans due to suffering with Osteoporosis and I have been prescribed both Alendronic Acid and Acrette D3 to help counteract the symptoms so please do not be afraid or alarmed by any scan results. Mine was caused by steroids that I am (still prescribed) as I have asthma and COPD.

Prior to getting an electric adjustable bed I use to use the v-shaped orthopedic pillows which worked quite well for me. I could simply adjust the angle of the pillow at any time to get maximum comfort and stop pain in my head and neck which causes me very bad migraines. I do not know if you think this may be worth a try?

If they feel that you have any kind of inflammatory illness such as Arthritis you could discuss (NSAID's) with your GP as these could be something as simple as Ibuprofen, if you can take these drugs?

I want to genuinely and sincerely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Ken could you tell me what a DEXA scan is please?

Hi, a DEXA Scan measures bones density, it is the way they diagnose Osteoporosis. It is similar to an X-ray but it takes about 20 minutes to do it.

The last one I had (October last year) the radiographer sat me on a chair and took my shoes off etc and helped me up a little step to get on the table and I fell off the other side. I felt so embarrassed! Luckily I didn't hurt myself though x

There is something depressing about pain travelling to my neck. It's a common companion that walks with me. If you work it will be a almost imposible to pace.

I am constantly on the look out for how I hold my head. Changing to a near flat pillow has helped some.

If physio give you exercises. Don't do what I did and push though the pain thinking that stretching will improve things. The best advise I ever got was from the physio on the pain management course. Didn't get rid but it has kept some movement. Have you tried tens machine?

Throwing you positive vibes. And hoping you find a way to live with it that causes you the least impact.

Here catch.

Hi Nedd. ...neck,upper body and shoulders pains are driving me nuts. I am interested in your comment "I am constantly on the look out for how I hold my head."....recent physio has picked up on this with me ie that my ears are not in vertical alignment with my shoulders so given exercises but these have sent the area wild with tingling....feels like an electric current constantly flowing. What was the advise from the physio on the pain management course you mention? Any help/advise really welcome as as well as the pains the exercises increase my nausea.

Excess. Pain certainly increases nausea.

Re exercises.

Do the recommended moves. But stretch to a comfortable level. And then

Ease back by 20 percent.

Makes perfect sense to me as pushing through if you have chronic pain only sets muscles cramping and nerves firing for days. to get the best out of the body you have to watch everything you do. It's a job when pain is constant. But I can definitely make things worse. It's about adjusting and fine tuning.

Good luck
