GP says but Ruby Wax's book

Hi all, my first post.

I went to GP this morning about symptons which have bothered my for some time. I had spoken to another Dr in the practice about them and another problem (but as she wasn't available till Friday I agreed to see this chap instead) she decided to get my other probs checked out first so arranged a hospital appointment for a scan on my tummy which turned out ok on all counts, still have the pain though!

On waking up, usually around 5am, I feel severe burning and sweating and itching, starting in my neck and travelling across my shoulders, up into my head and it sometimes eventually travels down to my waist. I also experience very dry and pins and needles in my tongue and mouth. I experience what I call 'inner shaking'. I feel my body shakes but if my husband holds my hand he can't feel it. It seems to be with me most of the time and I don't know if I'm imagining it but I now see little trembles in my hands. I use crutches if i'm likely to be standing when out - which is seldom, 2 sticks for walking short distances and a wheelchair for longer distances

I was diagnoses FM about 15 years ago although I've struggled with pain and exhaustion since the 60's.

Back to my GP this morning. What advice did he offer me? He suggested I buy a book, I think on self help or similar, that the comedien Ruby Welsh wrote!!

Anyway, does anyone else experience this burning, itching and pins and needles in their mouth?

Sorry for waffling on.

The book you mention is in my opinion a well written and balanced view on mental health and alongside a course of CBT helped me immensely, at the time of reading this particular book I was going through a devastating loss and I found it helpful. All best wishes. Lou xx

I had CBT years ago which did nothing for me so I thought the Dr's suggestion was because he thought 'it was all in my head'. Thanks for that.

YesI have had that strange sensation I've got it now strangely enough as though I am having tin little electric. Pins and needles in m tongue and I sometimes get it across my lips as well. I have often wondered whether it is the fibro or a side effect of one of my meds.

I have actually heard that Ruby Waxe's book is good. I think a lot of us do not start out with anxiety orndepressio but feeling so under the weather, pain and lack of sleep does that to us. The mnd is a very powerful ting and sometimes if we can understand what it ca do to us it can help us cope with our illnesses more.

Now of this means you are imagining any of your pain as it is only too real but sometimes a book like that can help us in training the mind to deal with things.

Please nlet us know how you get on.x

Will do Rose wine. I'll try to get it next week when I'm in town.

Hi Anne8

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I genuinely hope that you find the forum useful, informative and loads of fun!

I have pasted you a link to our parent site, Fibromyalgia Action UK which hosts loads of useful Fibro information:

I am so genuinely sorry to read of your inner shaking issues and there could be multiple medical conditions that can cause this apart from Fibro. Hyperthyroidism, hypoglycemia and anxiety to mention but three. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck with finding the answers that you are looking for. I would personally go and see a different GP and see how it goes?

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

i like your idea of hypoglycemia being the culprit for the inner shaking i often get that sensation in the early hours. and need to eat something despite the nausea that tends to come with it . i find 3 ginger biscuits and milk works within 30 minutes.

I am so genuinely sorry to read that you suffer with hypoglycemia, and it is something that I have experienced on occasion. I tend to have a few chocolate fingers and a cup of tea (all lactose free of course) as I am lactose intolerant.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken
