Fibromyalgia medication

Hi, I was diagnosed with fibro 3 1/2 years ago. In this period I have tried all three FDA approved medications (Cymbalta, Lyrica, Savella) without much improvement. I'm currently on the max dosage 200 mg of Savella, and I am in so much pain. Has anyone had any luck with anything else? I don't have an appointment with a pain management specialist until July, and I'm at the end of my rope. I haven't been prescribed any prescription pain meds. Any suggestions?

Neurontin (gabapentin) started with a low dose working up if you can tolerate it, worth a conversation with a doctor given the time scale for a pain clinic.

Thank you for your suggestion. :)

I am so sorry to read that, and I genuinely hope that you can find the answers that you so desperately desire and deserve. As Ian123 says, Gabapentin is one option that you could discuss with your GP or medical specialist. You could also discuss drugs such as Amitriptyline and / or Nortriptyline?

It may also be useful to discuss out-and-out pain killers, as there are loads you could possibly try? I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

I put on quite a bit of weight with Pregabalin. I tried Amitriptyline but it did not agree with me.

You didn't miss much. I don't think it did very much for me except to make me need to diet!

By the way, all of a sudden I started breaking out in rashes between my fingers and across my chest and back. My GP, the one who diagnosed me and has helped me all these years, told me it was nerves, anxiety, depression (I'm also the caregiver for my 92 year old Mom who has severe frontal lobe dementia...it doesn't help my fibro any, but I'm the only one who stepped up to care for her) and he prescribed Doxapin. It has been amazing. I was able to cope better and have a better outlook on life, helped me sleep and did get rid of the depression and anxiety...and with that, the rashes. I had told him I didn't want anything that was going to put weight on me and that's what he prescribed. Maybe it would work for others.

That is wonderful that it has helped you, and it is really useful to know of other members positive experiences with medication as to try and help others.

I am so sorry to read about your mom, and I genuinely and sincerely hope that she is in a good place emotionally.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Thanks so much, Ken. Unfortunately, Mom lives in a constant state of confusion and she has lost her ability to string enough words together to make a sentence. It's a very cruel disease. I try to keep her happy and safe. That's all I can do. Thank you for your good wishes.

Cymbal ta or Lyrica did not help me at all. Not had Savella. Good luck.

I've had relief with Ultram ER. Generic tramadol doesn't do a thing for me, but the brand name does. It comes in various strengths, and I max out at 300, but I am functioning. For flares, I take oxycodone. I don't need to take it very long, often only one straightens my body out, so there isn't any chance I'm going to get addicted, and together with the Ultram ER300, I'm good. Hope this helps you. By the way, I tried Savella and had so many adverse reactions and no relief, so we trashed it. Best of luck!

I just read that morphine is ineffective for fibro.

Gabapentin helped me for a while but then it had almost a reverse effect on me. It took me a while to figure it out but it was giving me terrible leg aches. Lyrica made my ears ring. I'm now on pain meds. It's the only thing that has worked for me. (Hydrocodone)

Thank you for all of your replies :)
