Hi bvlgari

I have not tried Morphine Sulphate, but I wanted to sincerely wish you all the best of luck with this.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Hi bvlgari,

I have been on MST for several years and it does seem to work in conjunction with other meds. I have other issues as well as fibro and I think the MST helps with that too. I have a good relationship with my GP and I am able to vary the dosage in line with my level of pain, but he knows that I will always get back to my "maintenance level" as soon as I possibly can.

I hope this may have helped in some way, and am sending lots of positive healing vibes your way 😀😀

Hi Bvlgari,

My doctor has started to prescribe Morphine patches for me which I use as and when required together with my other meds - like Fibrofoggiest, I have different conditions.

Morphine is the best thing evverrrr....... It's sooooooo good! Dulls pain considerably AND makes me drowzy - what more could you want? Just lovely.

Enjoy but watch out for constipation. Was completely bunged up after my first one week trial but just pop a dulcolax now when I need to.

dear reykua- each of us have various different conditions of which some are helped by one cocktail or another. i have fentanyl patches and use morphine for breakthrough pain. never found it to be sooo good nor does it make me drowzy. i worry that if your are getting so drowzy you might injure yourself. it must feel wonderful to dull the pain but am concerned. each of us that take these serious pain medications need to be so very careful to not take so much in an effort to constantly feel good. i am a poor writer so hope i am not saying something that might upset you. take care of yourself...

Hi nadine111,

Thank you so much for your kind concern.

As I mentioned to Hartleyhare2, this is a new prescription for me and I'm only four days in and feeling incredible. I have been in excruciating pain recently and this patch has actually worked unlike all the other medications I've been on for the last five years, ranging from codeine to Tramadol, naproxen and everything else inbetween.

I was trying to be humorous but obviously frightened others with my jocular approach to pain meds and the effect this particular one is having on me. I'm just grateful that although I've been very drowzy, it's the first time in so long that I can actually feel myself relaxing, laughing and smiling. Well, it's only day four so let's see how it goes.

Like most, I suffer from a number of different conditions, one being severe obstructive sleep apnea so having minimal pain and being drowzy enough to get some deep sleep has been a real blessing.

In the meantime, I'll try to be less blase about meds in future on the forum. Sorry if I offended or worried you and others.

We each of us handle pain differently but it is my understanding if your Meds are making you feel like that you may be taking too much and be on a slippery slope. I don't mean to be rude the morphine is there to take the pain away not for a good time. Sorry that seems like a stuffy lecture just thinking about your long term health.

Thanks Hartleyhare2

It was meant as a joke but I'll be more careful in expressing myself in future to ensure that nobody gets the wrong end of the stick, becomes concerned or offended.

Thank you for bringing my inappropriate joke to my notice. I've only just been prescribed the morphine patches and am still on the first one - which you attach to your arm and it gradually releases the meds into your skin over 7 days.

I'm currently on day four and have to admit that it's the first time I've felt virtually pain free in the last five or so years so I'm thrilled. However, it makes me extremely drowsy so will probably need to review it at some point as I'm getting nothing done.

Like most people on the forum, I have many other conditions I'm trying to manage including my ongoing preparations for open back surgery in May so just trying to stay positive and manage the pain and maintain a sense of humour - sorry again if I offended.

I feel really bad now! I was not offended atall just adding a note of caution. Thank you so much for your lovely considerate reply.

I have not tried the patches but take MST in the morning and evening then Oramorph as needed during the day. I also take Diazipam to stop those shooting nerve pains in my legs. It must be great to feel pain free! I am nearly there, I have been a total dribbling zombie to screaming in pain and all the bits between as I am sure you have.

I had keyhole surgery on my lower back which made an amazing difference and probably will need it on my neck, but I keep shying away from it! Your open back surgery sounds serious.

I really was not trying to offend or judge you atall. Perhaps I worry to much about it as my wife is an ICU nurse and is always double checking things.

My current issue is like frozen shoulder on both sides which is driving me nuts as I can't sleep on my back!

There is always something interesting and new with Fibro!

I hope we can become friends and keep in touch. Hope the patches keep working for you. 😊

Best wishes

Patrick

Hi I Take 20mg of MST slow release twice a day. I have friends who take 30 or 40. This would make me too drowsy and zombie like. So I have oramorph for bad days and breakthrough pain. This works well as is quick, strong and only take it when necessary. Usually when I haven't been pacing myself and overdone it the day before! So it works for me as keeping the backgRound pain at bay.
