Help with fybro

Hi ! I've only been diagnosed recently I'm really suffering I'm taking tramadol and occasional codeine but I'm so uncomfortable especially my legs I don't know what to do with myself ! My right hand swells and really hurts I've started getting so down ! I heard naproxen is a good pain relief has anyone else tried this ? I feel pretty alone with this and I'm not sure if people take this condition seriously ! Sorry to be such a moaner I don't know who to talk to ! My poor doctor must be fed up of trying new things for me ! Any advice would be welcome x

You don't have to apologise for anything. We all understand how fibromyalgia affects us. You must pace your days, get an appointment with pain managament, that might help you, see if there are any fms groups, that helps too.

Their are plenty of meds you could try, naproxen, ibuprofen ate painkilers like tramadol, i find tramadol and ibuprofen together work well for me. Their is gabapentin and pregablin that block neurological messages from brain to body. Amitriptyline helps with sleeping and pain. These are jyst some meds available there are lots more. Fibro control is lot about trial and error and making adjustments in your life, such as pace, activity and gentle exercise. Wishing you well with your endevours,

You are not moaning it is a horrible condition to have to deal with and it takes some getting used to. There are so many treatments and medications out there and as we are all so individual in what suits us it can be difficult to get the right balance and of course it is such a diverse illness that symptoms can also be very different.

What especially is the problem with your legs is it generalised aching or cramps or is it restless legs or a combination of all three.?

I have heard members talk about pain clinics. I went to see a pain management doctor. I used to take Vicodin and Naproxen together and the naproxen worked well in combination, but had to stop the naproxen and all other NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.) because I had elevated kidney levels and cystic changes on my kidneys. So it's important if you take any NSAIDs for a long time to have your kidney labs monitored.

I have used Naproxen in the past but it is classed as Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug which many people cannot / should not use if they have any kind of respiratory illness such as Asthma or COPD. I found it quite effective but I can only take it for a couple of days at a time as I have both the illnesses listed above. I have pasted you an NHS Choices link about Naproxen below:

There are many other medications that can help with Fibro such as Gabapentin and Pregabalin which are classed as neural inhibitors, and used for Neuropathic Pain. It may be worth discussing these with your GP or Medical Specialist?

I've been on tramadol for over 10/12yrs it doesn't really help much any more but the only one that used to help I've got so reliant on them I'm trying now to reduce I have a little but they are very hard to come off I don't think anything works really co codamol makes me constipated but I'm diabetic too high blood pessure so I take other meds try other meds if you can cause tramadol is very addictive well I found it was I have to have them now as my body just shakes when I try not to take them hope you cN some relief gentle hugs xxx
