Hi,

Just wondered if anyone else experiences severe night sweats with Fibromyalgia (I am also diagnosed CFS/ME & Pituitary micro adenoma)?

I am on a low dose of Amitriptyline, but was experiencing before started taking.

Yes, Amitriptyline is actually prescribed off license for hot flushes - however mine seem much more intense since getting Fibro..... x

I'm confused now. I was suffering them before started on Amitriptyline & still getting. They are really bad, not flushing but extreme sweating (wakes me, bed wet a..yuk).

Are you saying they are prescribed to relieve the sweating? (mine is for pain). X

The autonomic nervous system controls body temperature amongst a list of other duties, been too cold and shivering at normal room temperature is the flip side of overheating in the same conditions.

Can get into bed with feet like blocks of ice and within next to no time putting them out from under the covers they are burning. Switching between heat packs and a fan for the Goldilocks (just right porridge) temperature with a faulty body thermostat is a common ME / CFS sympton.

Hi jellynpain

I am so sorry to read that you are experiencing severe night sweats, and I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to this issue. This problem was raised by members some time back, (before you joined us I believe) and from what I have read from other members many Fibro sufferers do appear prone to Hyperhidrosis. I have pasted you an NHS Choices link below relating to Hyperhidrosis, so I hope that you find it useful:

NHS Choices - Hyperhidrosis

nhs.uk/Conditions/Hyperhidr...

The pages do give you some options and alternatives for counteracting the issue, but I do not know of any members who have had any success with them? Unless somebody can come along and say otherwise? I want to wish you all the best of luck with this issue.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Thank you for your replies. Awake early... yep woken by sweating hugely! Such a vicious circle causing broken, lack of sleep knocking onto making me even more fatigued & effecting the ret of my day.

Also thank you for the link which I will have a read of.

Hope you have good days x

Try slowing down a little with pacing if you are trying to sleep adrenalin fuelled from overdoing things the sleep quality is not good. The body thermostat is thrown towards hot getting rid of the heat that would normally come from running about full of adrenalin, this is not a cure but might help manage the symptoms as will keeping hydrated as best you can.

Hello!

I do have night sweats but they were much worse on Amitriptyline. Previously I took citalopram for depression and that was the worst! Had to sleep on a towel, was horrid!

I still have a summer duvet on even though it is December... that helps a bit xx

Hi,

Thanks for replying.

It is awful. I spend my nights throwing off all covers, then of course I wake freezing cold!

They haven't got worse on Amitriptyline, just the same. Gp generally great but when it comes to this he says 'sorry can't help you with that!'. I am having Endocrinologist blood tests so wondering if its a mixture of FM/ME/CFS & thyroid stuff accumulated. Just confuses it all eh.

Hello,

Yes I was prescribed them for hot flushes - but I've been on an much increased does for FMS, why dont you speak with your GP again, xx

Hi jellynpain

I am having horrible sweats not just at night but all day too. But I don't really get hot with them, just sweaty and clammy. So I have to change my clothes about twice a day and have wads of paper under my boobs and everywhere. When i take tops off they are wringing, yuk. I'm not on amitriptyline. I think mine's to do with the change. It's ben much worse in the last few months or so.

What is Pituitary micro adenoma? I have been wondering about my own pituitary so will look this up. Stay dry (if you can!)

PS Have just looked up about pituitary adenomas. How do you know if you have this? My blood tests indicate that I may have secondary hypothyroidism but they were borderline and I really don't know how to take it forward with my GP not onside.

xx

I have to be different! Whilst on Amitryptaline I had terrible night sweats but now it doesn't work for me and I stopped it the sweats have gone. I am always cold and have a down quilt and a 15tog feather and down quilt plus a heated overblanket to be reasonable. I was taken off HRT a year ago though and have had much more pain since then plus my sleep is even worse now. The only place I have relief from the fibro is Egypt ! Were it possible I would move !!!
