Hi Lucy, I had symptoms something like a few weeks back. My rheumatology doc said it was another symptom of fibro but didn't give me anything to help. I tend to stick with the blander foods now. Hope you find something to help.

Thanks for your reply Theresa, have your symptoms gone or do you still have them? Mine seem to flare up for a few days and then settle a bit but never completely go! Lucy

HiLucy, I get this too. I used to really enjoy eating the curries etc. that Hubby makes, but now I cannnot stand anything too spicy or hot. Wen its bad I think I've got thrush or something. Last night, Hubby made a pork and chicken jerk, which was nice, but Hubby misjudged the seasoning and it was too hot for me to enjoy. I have to keep reminding him that my mouth is sensitive now. My fave curry is korma now. :-(

Hi Lucykris

I am so sorry to read that you have been suffering with such a horrid sensation and I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to this issue. I have pasted some information below from a patient guide from the NHS Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Trust regarding this issue:

What is Burning Mouth Syndrome?

This condition is characterized by a burning pain or hot sensation which can be localized to the lips or tongue or more widespread in the mouth. • The sensation can be continuous or intermittent. • It can also be accompanied by other symptoms like dryness, an unpleasant taste, or feelings of numbness. • It can increase with talking, eating hot or spicy foods, and in times of stress. • It can be reduced by some foods or drink, sleep or rest and distraction. In research literature, it is sometimes referred to by other names e.g. glossodynia, glossopyrosis, stomodynia, oral dysaesthesia.

Hi Lucy - The pineapple and wine (red especially) as well as some of the ingredients in curries make me think of a histamine intolerance, the symptoms are very wide ranging and can be immediate as well as delayed. Maybe look into that?

A burning or tingling in the mouth and lips can also point to an allergic reaction to something which, if that is the case, might be a good idea to investigate because allergies can worsen over time.

Just two thoughts based on my experiences, I hope you find answers and relief soon!
