Feeling low - in so much pain...

19 Replies

I feel bad for just writing this post, because FibroAction is so cheerful and jokey, and I don't want to drag anyone down with my moaning. But this post is actually Fibro related for what it's worth, all be it gloomy, I'm sorry :(

I have really painful points around my waist, lower back, hips and thighs, that a few years ago a Physio described as trigger points, the an orthapoedic surgeon as bursitis and tendonitis, but now I'm told it's just pain and nothing can be done. My new orthapoedic surgeon says that thinking has moved on about bursitis etc and they generally just consider it to be a painful joint now. I'm struggling because I used to be given injections of anaesthetic and steroid into the bursa or tendon sheath depending on the site of the pain which gave some immediate relief, but now apparently they don't do anything like that. My hip and thigh is so sore that when someone brushed past me in the shop earlier, barely touching, it made me cry out with pain. I just cannot bare the thought of life with daily pain like this if they are saying they no longer treat it. does anyone else suffer with this, and get relief from it?

Hello Jigsawcat,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing so much pain, I am surmising but have the Consultants decided not to give anymore steroid injections as over a period of time they can;

If injected more frequently there is a risk of deterioration of bone and progressive cartilage damage in the affected joint. Bone, ligaments, and tendons can weaken with too frequent steroid injections (About.com)

osteoarthritis.about.com/od...

So it may be they feel this may make things worse in the long run maybe? I'm not a Doctor but I remember having my shoulder injections stopped due to possible deterioration from steroid injection which may actually worsen the pain.

I wondered if you have tried warm Epsom salt baths or any muscle creams discussed here;

healthunlocked.com/fibroact...

I hope you may find something there which may help

Please do visit our website to look at our 'All about Fibro' range of factsheets about treatments for Fibro, link below;

fibroaction.org/Pages/How-I...

You may find there is a medication you haven't tried you can speak to the GP about, you can download the factsheets and print them to take with you if needed.

Please know we are here to listen and I hope you get some relief soon

Best Wishes

Emma :)

Thanks for this Emma. I bought a 25kg bag of Epsom salts and bath in it every night, that, and heat, and voltarol gel really work for my muscle and bone pain, but nothing touches this surface pain. Some days I can't wear a bra, and even the elastic on my knickers causes too much pressure. It's awful! X

We're here to listen too. No problem if you need a moan, rant or hug.

Just because some of us have a very loose grip on reality and responsibility doesn't mean you cant be serious. Laughter is great but in the right place. I'm on other HU sites and honestly some of them are really depressing cos they're so dully serious. it's unlikely you'll drag anyone down.

I've seen nothing untoward in your posts and replies :)

Hi jc, Moaning is absolutely acceptable we all need to get it out of our systems from time to time.

Have you tried the the muscle rubs ? My favourite is phorepain gel. After doing a bit of weeding yesterday i was in agony with my right leg, its the one that was tucked under me while sitting on the grass. Had to get up in the night and rub the gel in from hip to heel.

Not long after it had eased enough to sleep. this morning it feels like all my ligament are made from rubber bands and the muscles are aching but the worst of the pain has gone.

I hope that you find a gell that works as well for you.

Gentle hugs sue xx

Sorry you are in so much pain. I found some videos online recently which I think were for spondylitis and sciatica, they demonstrated how to reduce the tightness of the muscles around the hips and buttocks. Basically you run your hand firmly down the outside front of your thigh until you find a sore spot. You then use two hands to apply pressure to the sore spot until the pain lessens. This really helps to release the tightness in the major muscles. I tried it and it did work, it may help you too x

in reply to DonnaldIW

Thanks for this, I'll give it a go. Do you use flat hands, or finger tips? Does it matter how much pressure you apply?

It said to use slightly curved fingertips then use the weight of your other hand to apply pressure. I spoke to my chiro about it yesterday and he said you can lean onto a rolled up towel instead. I just applied firm pressure with my fingertips on the sorest part x

So sorry sweetheart!!! You need to go to a pain clinic asap. There are pain meds that can and do help!!! It's so uncalled for that they have failed you in easing your suffering. Please get a referral if you need one and go, if your doctor won't give you one get a new doctor. It's barbaric to think in this day and time with medical advancement you are made to suffer. Hope this helps!!! xxx Mitzi

in reply to mitziblue

Thanks Mitzi. I've been waiting for 6 months to see the pain clinic (specialist Physio team), I'm not sure what they do exactly but I finally start there on Wednesday x

in reply to dawnlancaster

I'm exactly the same! My night sweats are dreadful, I have to change, and my bedding will be wet too, so have to swap pillows and spin round the duvet and change sides of the bed in order to find a dry place to sleep. I've had nights where I've changed 5 times!! It's miserable!
