TRAMADOL DOSAGE

I have recently been prescribed Tramadol for pain relief, the doctor says that I can take up to 8 a day, but to keep the dosage as small as possible. I have read on here that it works very well if you take paracetamol at the same time. Can anybody tell me what dosage works best for them.

many thanks Joyce

Difficult to say as we are all individuals in this but my friend was told to have the paractemol and tramadol with 2 hours in between so as to have an optimum amount of pain killer in her body at all times. She found that this regime suited her but her problem was osteo rather than fibro. I unfortunately had to stop taking Tramadol even though it did help my pain more than most things the doctors have tried because it gave me a constant strange headache 24/7 which realy pulled me down. It is best to take your doctors advice on this. Hope you get a regime that works well for youx

Hi I was originally prescribed it for osteo but I now also have Fibro and RD so it is good for all I think. My GP said to be careful to only take them when really needed so I take it very sparingly as it really spaces me out so just before I go to bed I take 2 x 50mg and will only take them during the day if the pain gets unbearable. During the day I take paracetamol and top up with tramadol if needed. As Rosewine said we are all individuals and what suits one person doesnt necessarily suit another. Best to follow what your doctor said. Gentle hugs. Joolz.x

Hi joyceconfused

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? I have never taken Tramadol. However, as with all medicines you should use with caution as the other members have already said, as we all react differently to both our medications and our illnesses.

I have pasted you the NHS Choices link to Tramadol, so it may have some information on that you will find useful?

I want to wish you all the best of luck with your medication and your Fibro.

All my hopes and dreams for you

I take 25mgs in the morning and another 25mg at night to help me sleep! If I take any more than that it makes my stomach sick!

With bad throwing up!!:(. You will have to see what works for you . I would start with a low dose to see how you feel!! I have to take half of what the doc said to take!! I hope it works well for you!! Gingeq

Hi there. I take eight tramadol daily along with eight cocodamol. They are both prescribed by my doctor. Try it on its own first as they are strong x

Sorry ef59 but I can't understand why your GP would sanction this combination of drugs, they are both opiates and according to my GP should never be taken together. Please don't think I am being awkward or judgemental, I am just concerned for your well being. If you go on the NHS website, it says the same. Take care. X.

Hello. Thanks for your reply. I have been prescribed these by my doctor as well as other tablets including 15mg amitryptiline in evening. Other medication like gabapentin and can't remember the other one did not agree with me. No I don't for one minute think that you are judging me or being awkward as this site is where we can share and learn from each other. Take care x

Hi,

I take the extended release tramadol rather than several doses a day. My GP believes this covers pain better as it doesn't have the dropping off effect of taking it four or so times a day. Paracetamol may also help but I found I ended up with rebound headaches. We are all different so hopefully you will find what works best for you.

Hugs
