Hi,

This is normally a problem that occurs as we age or if we have any form of gum disease. It can be slowed down and/or prevented by daily flossing. It's where the saying "long in the tooth" originated as we slow more tooth as we get older.

Hi anbuma

I am so sorry to read that this is happening to you, and I agree with jillylin, as it is normally an age related condition. There are many toothpastes and mouthwash products on the market these days that advertise that they can help prevent this problem. It may be worth having a look at a few to see if they can help you?

Take care

Hi Anbuma,

I had receding gums and I went to an amazing hygeinest and she really taught me at the age of 60 how to clean my teeth properly; I thought I was making a great effort before but I wasn't doing it right. She had a model of my teeth and she got me to bring in my own tooth brush. She showed me how to hold my electric brush for each bit of my teeth, so that I glide the edge of the brush over the place where the gum meets the tooth and I never press with the brush onto the gum. She also advised using a different brush head for some parts of my teeth (around 2 crowns and some teeth that have a big gap I use a smaller head, a good pharmacy will help you choose), and I use 2 types of tepee, you have to find the tepee that is the largest you can use for the space between the teeth, so that's why you may need more than one size, also I use one of those plastic things with a string of floss across it for the back part of my mouth which I find difficult to reach when flossing, and then satin floss all round to finish off. If I have any inflammation I use salt water mouthwash after I finish, if not I rinse with water - she was really against using these medicated mouth wash products as it kills your helpful bacteria in your mouth that help to protect gums. It takes me quite a time twice a day but it really seems to help and in fact seven years later some of my receding gums have actually grown back and I have no gum disorder whatsoever. So you might not accidentally find the same hygeinist that I had, but just to say that if you really persevere with finding out how to get the last little bit of debris out from your teeth it can improve. She has moved now so I can't even recommend her, but she was truly like no other hygeinist I have met before or since. Some drugs do cause gum receding so with fibro it is even more important to be so particular about mouth hygeine. I hope this is helpful and positive. Love and hugs x
