Not sure how to deal with this pain...

I usually have a very sore lower back, mainly around the sacroiliac joints which I treat with gentle stretches, pain gel and by wearing a tight sacroiliac belt most of the time. The past 48 hours have been very different though and I've found that I can't sit or stand still without immediate and severe cramping/spasming across the whole of my lower back from the waist down. If I lean forwards and walk carefully I can stay on my feet, otherwise I have to get on the bed or floor with my knees hugged to my chest. I'm not sure what is causing this but it's come on so suddenly and I don't know what to do. I was in my car earlier and had to turn around for home because sitting behind the wheel was too much. Strangely, with it, has come a terrible aching in my heels too. It's so bizarre because I am used to lots of aches and pains, and have learned to live with them, but this is so severe and sudden that it's left me a bit gobsmacked. I'm considering seeing the GP about it. Does anyone have any ideas about what it could be?

I am sorry you are suffering at the moment.Unfortunately I would be of no use to you, but would suggest that you see your gp as this is different to what would be your normal aches. Wishing you all the best. Let me know how you get on. :)

Hi there, I really would get to your gp, and don't let him fob you off with fibro, this pain sounds too severe. It may be that you,ve been moving awkwardly because of your low back pain, ( I have exactly the same), and there is undue strain on your lower vertebrae to compensate, which has now decided to complain. In the meantime try an ice pack or frozen peas. Try not to stay in one position for too long, but do take it easy . if all else fails and you can afford it, get to a physio or similar. Hope you get some relief soon. Xx

it's always advisable to talk to the gp about new or worsening symptoms. if they say "emergency only" say yes.

if you think you need to get help immediately, go to your nearest walk-in centre or a&e dep't.

I hope you get some ease.

regards,

hamble :)

have you tried a hot water bottle?

Hi Jigsawcat

I am so sorry to read that you are suffering in this way and I would definitely discuss this with your GP. As I am not a doctor I do not know what you may have done to your back and I wouldn't want to give you poor advice?

I want to wish you all the best of luck with this and I genuinely hope that you start to feel better soon.

Hi jigsawcat this sounds like a prolapsed disc which causes severe pain that you talk about (sciatica) would see a g.p as soon as possible .

I'm in the same situation as you for the past 10 days. I've been to my dr she doubled the neurontin so I'm now taking 1800mgs a day I also taking pain killers and muscle relaxants. Gp said it's a trapped nerve I do know and I'm wondering if she really knows herself what's wrong. I feel dopey and sleepy but it's better that the pain I was last week. I think it is starting to ease out a bit now because I'm reducing the pain meds and I'm not in as much pain. I hope you get relieve from it soon
