Hi tendertouch

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? I am so sorry to read that you are struggling with these issues and that you may have to use medications.

My first thought was on a personal level, in that I cannot use Amitriptyline because of the sedative element, so I have a non-sedative version called Nortryptaline. I have pasted you the NHS Choices link to both of these medications so you can compare them:

Cylexa is more commonly known by name of Citalopram, and I have also pasted you the NHS Choices link to this medication also:

I think that this is a really big decision for you if you have not already taken medications that you will most likely be taking for many years? So I can genuinely understand your desire to discuss the situation with others. If I were in your position I would weigh up the pros and cons of both sides, taking into account side effects against how you currently feel?

I want to wish you all the best of luck with finding answers to what is a very difficult conundrum.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Thank you so very much..everyone has been wonderfully supportive here I will definitely look up those sites I am very Leary about using meds unless absolutely necessary as I am a single mom with a teenage daughter with Aspbergers..and I teach special ed students in elementary school. Side effects are a major concern. Pain is almost bearable but fibromyalgia fog is new and freaky...making me irritable and causing frequent panic attacks.

Hello I take Amtripiline to help me sleep and have had no problems with side affects. I got to a point years ago with having to take drugs to keep me alive that if my GP or specialist says try this. I`ll try it. anything to make life easier.

Yes fibro fog can be freaky and a flipping pest but in time you learn to deal with it.

Hi Tendertouch,

Like you, I have always been reluctant to go down the drugs route but since being put on Amitryptiline, I have now become a strong advocate for this drug which enables me to have the much needed sleep at night.

The Author is right, it does have a sedative effect and it took me a while to guage when to take it at night to ensure I wasn't still groggy for work during the day. As he also mentioned, there is the non-sedative version which is equally effective without the same sleep inducing effect.

Why not try it for a couple of weeks and see how you go - if you really hate it, you can always stop.

Wishing you better health and coping skills.
